Unless you mean it's kitsch?

In which case, I'd obviously say that it wasn't "an inferior, tasteless copy of an extant style of art or a worthless imitation of art of recognized value"

As per Wikipedia.

Lol oops, made that post whilst on the phone, got a bit distracted i guess.. :)

And you wouldn't? How so? Hope you don't take offense when i say i find it kitschy, i’m of the opinion there's skill involved in producing things that are popular yet awful, a skill that i can certainly appreciate. It’s perhaps a bit like a popsong that tops the charts or a good advertising tagline – intellectually uninteresting and often creatively lacking but not devoid of a certain quality that strikes a chord with the tastless masses.

I like the first image, though for some reason it freaks the fuck out of me.

Second image, lose the bird in the foreground, it confuses the focal point with too much shit going on. Make the horses in a silhouette (not completely, but should match the trees since they are backlit).

Like Ryoki, I'm not a big fan of authored surreal nature scenes. It's a bit like those wolves howling at the moon pictures that people like on t-shirts and sweaters. Tacky in my opinion, but there still seems to be a huge market of people buying that stuff up, so who am I to judge?

Thanks, but the image is the image. I didn't post it on here to get feedback on what I should change. It's finished.

I appreciate the words, though. It's just personal work; I just spent the last 8 weeks in a studio shooting a summer collection for a shoe company, which was, at points, soul destroying. It's nice to just create something from scratch that doesn't exist and get to practice your compositing technique and matte painting.

Would I present this as an example of my work? No, I'm a portrait photographer who specialises in advertising photography, but is it an accurate reflection of the kind of world's I imagine in my mind? Most definitely.

:olo:

cityy asked me on IRC to critique some of his textures for a map he's working on the other day, I told him his exit sign stick figure had odd proportions, knee too high, arm too short. At first he was like, "it looks fine, no one will notice" and then he was like, "fuck, now I think he looks retarded and I'll have to fix."

Apparently I have a knack for this.

Bought me one of these yesterday Nikon D5100.

Specialist camera shop was having 10% off sale.
I asked and got some extras thrown in for next to nothing, buying just before the doors closed (figure that is the best time to great a deal, and yes it depends on how their day went of course)

Learning to drive it too so I wonder if you photography people would offer some useful links to better my education here.

I am particularly interested in night, portrait and macro/micro photography.

BTW, I replaced one of these so you see why

A rather big jump you see  :D

and a quick question if I may... the camera came packaged with one of these, Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 G VR...

and I bought a long lens - Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f4-5.6G DX IF-ED VR but now I am thinking smaller (large aperture /f 1.4 but they are expensive), so which of these would you (read I) buy to complete the package for a first timer DSLR novice?

Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 D or Nikon AF 35mm f1.8G AF-S DX

Looking for better range (?) of photographic variety :D

local link

wiki on apertures FYI those that follow

You say you're interested in macro, so how about one of the "micro" lenses? The key here is that they're specifically designed to focus at close range, typically under 0.3m, so you can get close to your subject. Using the link you provided, it appears the AF-S 40MM F2.8G DX MICRO is the cheapest. With f2.8 it could double as a portrait lens for a beginner, even if 40mm would usually be considered a little short.

Thanks d3mol!t!on

Yes the AF-S 40MM F2.8G DX MICRO. I was considering it for the real close stuff, bonus as you said, double as a portrait lens.

Still to me, a novice no doubt, the Nikon AF 28mm f2.8D looks a smidge better.
Seems I better study the relationship between focal length and aperture some more....

Someone with taste, perhaps?

Well that's what this thread is for. Why show anyone something that you think is not good enough? You some kind of attention seeker? You might show such a thing to get tips on how to imrpove your work, but that's what Obsidian was doing, yet you bitch about it. Quit being a bitch, man up and improve your work or GTFO

Hey, it's a skill. It's called Quality Control. AKA having good taste.

Yeah, cause he would hate to be told how he could improve somthing, we all know how much he hated improving anything :dork:

Oh wait, Obsidian wouldn't know how any of LDV's work could be improved, so it's not relevant. Moron. You just compared 0psys to LDV. WTG missing the point of criticism.

"Yeah, if there was an art critic around when LDV was doing his work, that would have ruined everything!". Yeah, sure.

Everyone's a critic. Deal with it. Go read the "last movie you saw" thread.

This post of mine isn't about 0psys's picture, I haven't even looked at it, I'm just correcting the moronics I found on the latest page of the thread. Expected to see the latest photos, not moronics. (Only picture on the page is a catalogue picture of a camera. Thread does not deliver.)

Canon 50D/28-135@28mm/ISO 400 f/5 1/8000 - Which actually came out too bright as I forgot to set my ISO setting when I took it. I had to lower the brightness and tweak the blacks in post. Would have came out fine with ISO 200 I reckon.
