and life's taken a turn in a very oddly extended way. The kid, in his junior year has undertaken a spring break solo of the Colorado trail. Earliest trail log on record, he's telling me, at some of the trail permit stations. Because of Allie G and his magical global warming raygun, avalanche danger exists at the peak of the highest range, so he only planned to trek the first 13 miles, out and back, from the buffalo creek campground:

the trail actually extends from Denver to Durango, which is over 500 miles:

Like addicts harboring some mild form of shopaholism, we went out and overextended the credit on an REI chrysalis tent, a -14C bag, a compression pack, a Spot GPS beacon and a packable stove with some freeze dried grossness like chicken and rice and stew. Unfortunately, after all the planning and effort he's going to pack it in early and head up to the grandpa's cabin tonight due to some wildfire danger near Pine (10 miles from his current coordinates. :olo: poor kid.
You fellas have any hiker / climber / solo journey tales to tell?

Why do all your posts read like a Hunter Thompson nightmare?

:olo: definitely take that as a complement, the fact that he's leaving the house on his own journeys is a passing of the torch and no, he's been outside but conditions this time of year are sketch, which made it all the more of a bold move bro
