The release date is set for Februari 11, 2011.

It appears as though the start of 2011 is set to be pretty fucking epic for games.

There's a video with new footage here:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/08 ... her-stuff/

I guess most of those puzzles are pretty early in the game. They seem to introduce the player to new gameplay elements, but these already look pretty tough. The player seemed to know what he was supposed to do.

Sorry to say so dude, but it's fucking epic.
Take what they did in the first Portal, multiply it with a gazillion and then you get near the level of epicness of Portal 2.

After watching the E3 stuff, then the shit posted above then thinking about it for a while, The best part of Portal was knowing nothing going into it.

They've not only shown the new stuff, but what to expect/do for situations rather then figuring it out.

if one or two tricks shown, gives up all there is to it, then why bother playing the game?

I hope that you're wrong, and that there's more to it than just a few seconds of footage.

i highly doubt it would give up all of the game, but trying to figure out those moves and the dynamics that the Goo plays is what made the last game entertaining for me.

they hinted they are adding more things in with the propulsion and speed goo, but wouldn't it be more of the same?

They should have kept the game shit under the lid and continued with the Secret pictures, sounds, telnet numbers, etc.

You know, the hard core nerd shit. :D

Though, all of that being said, i cant WAIT to play it... I've beat the first one 8 times to date and its the ONLY game i can say that about.

Hopefully this one will be no different.

Interview with one of the writers for Portal 2. Some potential (storyline) spoilers though:

Ah, no, because there wasn't any goo in the first Portal.

True, but I think it's hard to get up with creative stuff like that.

Well, that kind of proves that watching these videos doesn't spoil much. You learn about the basic usage of two of the goo types (I bet there's more types) and some other stuff, but that doesn't mean you suddenly know how to solve all the puzzles in the game. Even if you closely remember the stuff you see in the videos, then you'll be able to complete maybe one or two puzzles (assuming that these are in fact puzzles that end up in the final game and not just demo levels for that purpose only).

... Maybe valve should release Portal using episodic releases like Half-Life 2 since this will mean faster development time and less waiting between games, a unicorn told me this is true.

Delays are fine by me. Just means they're actually trying to make a quality product and have as few bugs as possible. I'd rather them do this than release a shit game...

Plus it gives me more time to give Portal a try. Still haven't played it...

No no no no no.
That is the same horse shit I've been hearing about Gran Turismo 5 lately as well.
It's all just a case of good project management. You know, you can have a good game that is indeed finished on time. Delays don't always mean that the developer can add another layer of polish while this is the most heard excuse for delays all round. I'd bet my dick and left testicle that a large majority of delays is due to improper project management and improper planning, and not a developer or creative genius thinking the product needs some additional polishing.

Also, publishers (I think they're mostly responsible for this) should stop throwing releasedates at products for which they cannot be certain they can release it by then.

Apparently the PS3 Steam version of Portal can play coop mode together with the PC and Mac versions of the game. Pretty cool and should work well, because the game isn't about speed or twitch reflexes.

I wonder if they'll let PS3 players use mouse and keyboard?
Unreal Tournament 3 did, so there is precedent.

Also, this is one in the eye for Microsoft and xbox Live. If Valve take this to its logical conclusions, we could be looking at a slew of great PC games making their way to PS3, with free online multiplayer across platforms.
There's why you'll never see this on 360; Microsoft would try and force Valve into finding a way to monetise the whole thing.

mine in april so FUCK YOU.

I also do firmly believe devs base their release dates on consumers' birthdays.
