as Sarah Palin once said: "how's that hopey-changey thing workin' out for ya?"...the "kill list" and rapidly expanded drone programme are just two of many aspects of Obama's national security policy that seem at odds with the expectations of many supporters in 2008. Having come to office on a powerful message of breaking with Bush, Obama has in fact built on his predecessor's national security tactics.
Obama has presided over a massive expansion of secret surveillance of American citizens by the National Security Agency. He has launched a ferocious and unprecedented crackdown on whistleblowers. He has made more government documents classified than any previous president. He has broken his promise to close down the controversial Guantánamo Bay prison and pressed on with prosecutions via secretive military tribunals, rather than civilian courts. He has preserved CIA renditions. He has tried to grab broad new powers on what defines a terrorist or a terrorist supporter and what can be done with them, often without recourse to legal process.

I was thinking same. It is a case of "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely" I suspect.fKd wrote:tbh, its america. it does not matter who is at the top, the results will be the same.

this surely? i am under the impression that the presidency is kind of like the queen of england...worthless.fKd wrote:tbh, its america. it does not matter who is at the top, the results will be the same.
The precidency gives a PR front to the underlying system that is in place, and will stay in place indefinitely...independent of any political activity on the surface.
The president might have some actual power by law, but if he attempts to use it in any significant way other than instructed, well lets just say it won't end well for him.

that article makes depressing reading. it sounds like matters of jurisdiction in the US are so confusing you can end up with a low-level civil war over an issue without even tryingUnderpants? wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/obamas-war-on-pot-20120216

No wonder Obama hates wikileaks.
Re: Obama = "Bush on steroids"
LOL. And so many of you had sand in your vagina because I didn't want to vote for Obama.

Re: Obama = "Bush on steroids"
I like how they reduced non-combatant deaths by redefining "combatant" to include any military-age male in the area of a suspected terrorist.
I love quake!
Re: Obama = "Bush on steroids"
why not just go the whole way and define anyone who dies in any drone strike a terrorist? they could cut civilian casualties by 100%
nonetheless you must be pleasantly surprised by how things have turned out

Doesn't Israel already do that? Just replace drones with missiles, bombs, tanks, and bullets.seremtan wrote:why not just go the whole way and define anyone who dies in any drone strike a terrorist? they could cut civilian casualties by 100%

Please point out where in my post I mentioned "jews" committing atrocities. Many Jews oppose Zionism and for someone who allegedly dislikes Guardian and Fox for their faux-journalism, you sure sure are quick to go for the sensationalist angle.
And the rest of your post reeks of a weak troll attempt, because even you couldn't be that dumb. I hope.

An interview from yesterday's The Daily Show with Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein (authors from both Republican and Democratic think tanks) discussing why the Obama Administration hasn't been able to get anything done. You know...that hope and change he was promising. They also clearly explain exactly why Republifags (and pretty much the entire US political system) are such a huge bunch of assholes and keeping the entire United States in the dark ages just to win a pissing match.duffman91 wrote:LOL. Link for Canadians
Link for Americans and Everyone Else On The Planet to the DailyShow and skip through to the Interview segment because Comedy Central will NOT allow Canadians direct access to their videos
Say what you will about Obama and whether or not you'd vote for him, but at least in REALITY (and not some Fox News contributor's wet dream) he's actually trying to improve his country...which is something that cannot be said for anyone on the other side of the isle. He's the pres, not the king.
Sorry to shit on any parade you might have been on since you posted duffman but do you seriously think that because Obama has done some of the same things Bush Jr did that Mitt Romney would be a better president? If you answer yes it's possible you're either sweetly retarded or just have really good glue to huff in your neighborhood.
I mean seriously...knowing all you know and knowing full well that the Republifags have openly, purposefully and successfully fucked the USA the last decade-plus and continue to do in relentless obstructionism, you think Obama is a shitty pres because he didn't close gitmo? While it's true that the level of discourse in American politics is below that of a four-year old I am still impressed to find those that will happily shove their heads even further up their asses than it already is and act even dumber. Hilarious. Please continue.

Re: Obama = "Bush on steroids"
So is this true?
It seems both parties are using "on steroids" to describe their opponent's positions. Phrase-Of-The-Month
Americans Still Blame Bush More Than Obama For Bad EconomyMore than two-thirds of Americans—including half of Republicans—still blame former President George W. Bush for the country's economic ills, according to a new Gallup poll released on Thursday, hours before President Barack Obama was to deliver a high-stakes speech defending his handling of the weak economy....
...The Democratic president has crisscrossed the country in recent months pleading for patience from voters still struggling in the anemic recovery and grappling with stubbornly high unemployment above 8 percent. In his speeches, Obama makes a point of blaming Bush and Republicans in general for the 2007-2008 meltdown and warns that Mitt Romney's economic program resembles the Bush approach "on steroids."...
..."Americans continue to have more negative than positive views of the current economy and the direction in which it is headed, which generally does not bode well for Obama," Gallup notes.
"Still, 68 percent of Americans say former President Bush should be given a great deal or a moderate amount of blame for the nation's economic woes—substantially more than say the same about Obama. This suggests that Obama's argument that he is on the right track and needs more time to turn the economy around could fall on receptive ears, particularly those of independents," Gallup suggests.

yeah, because recidivism in america didn't exist until 2008. all those cons learned their lesson and became useful members of society, assuming they didn't let 25 to life under the three strikes rule for stealing a cookie
