Was on telly last night aye?
I had seen it before on DVD. Had some cool moments but I expected more to it. Seemed too much like a collection of individual events that had no real relation to each other. Not sure why it won an Oscar.

god that was all kinds of shite - but fair play to shia lebouf for taking part. at least it gave everyone prior warning that it was going to be fucking awful without needing to know anything else about the film.

tv rather than a movie, the first episode of charlie brooker's new thing:

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/black-mirror/4od

excellent, 9/10 (if you like charlie brooker's brand of satire).

the revenant (8/10)
one or two loose ends and a few saggy scenes aren't enough to stop this being the best low budget vampire/horror/bromance/comedy/action movie of the year.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil - 8/10

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable movie. One of the main guys is the pilot from Firefly. It's a faux-horror comedy about a group of hot/stupid college kids who think a couple rednecks are murdering them off. Meanwhile the rednecks think the college kids are in some psycho suicide pact. The comedy isn't non-stop laughs but there are some very funny moments. The movie itself is great though thanks to some great writing and acting by the rednecks.

Moneyball = 8/10 - Interesting story and good performances.

The Debt = 6/10 - Sorta good. Sorta not.

Alien Armageddon = lol

The Ides of March = 7/10 - A decent movie that pretty much proves that anyone who aspires to get into politics is an absolute cunt by default.

Really interesting performances, especially Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I saw it last night and though, yes not bad. I agree completely with both the above.

Kinda proves you have to screw people over to get to the top so life's a bitch, ain't it?

Likewise 7/10

The first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight Rises, during a special sneak preview (http://www.operationearlybird.com):

9.5/10

Failed to get a 10/10 only because the sound mix in my particular theater made it difficult to hear Bane's voice. Cannot wait for July 20th.

True Grit - 6/10 - great performances, and well-written, but somehow lacked a certain punch. still streets ahead of the john "massive faggot" wayne version though

it's like fine dinning. you know it's well done, with the freshest ingredients and a master chef behind every dash of spice, but the food somehow doesn't satisfy as much as a greasy burger with chilly cheese fries.

Yes another remake of a classic.
You know I am in to sci fi :)
I appreciated the effort here and enjoyed the movie but it just doesn't make it to the original.
Still worth you time but only 7/10

Look, if you get a chance, you must see the original

Just watched Love Actually.

Watched it Christmas night and it felt really good :)

I searched here as I thought I'd rated it in this topic before; I did back in 2009.

Still a pleasant movie, worth you time and the rating went up to 8.5/10

Harry Potter & the Deathly Rip-off of the Christ/Neo Resurrection Motif (Part 2) - 7/10 - not a bad conclusion, and made more sense than most HP movies

Priest - 4/10 - stupid Paul Bettany vehicle in which he gets to reprise his Da Vinci Code religious loon role but with superpowers and without the psychosis (and cilice)

Sucker Punch

I have to idea what the fuck was going on and the script was retarded as hell, but behind all the nonsensical psychological fluff is.... well, girls in skimpy outfits. Hard to hate it too much.

"Baraka" on BD:
my new reference (it used to be "2001").
Awesome picture quality. 10/10
For AD conversion they scanned 65mm negatives at 8k resolution. It pays off. This is what HD should have been meant for. The sound mix is pretty damn fine as well.

A second thump goes up for the quality of the "Band of brothers/The Pacific" BD-boxset, EU version. That is one really fine example of "hardware" for a boxset. Not very extensive on the extras, but a very nice and valuable cartoon-package. A 10 for that aspect. Wonder why they didn't give the Alien-boxset the same treatment.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - it's as good/bad as the others. well, maybe a little better than the last. phillip seymor hoffman didn't really work for me. it's over the top and some of the science stuff is distractingly dumb (e.g., levitating someone with a large magnet in a computer server room without damaging the computers) but i guess it's made for the derp-america crowd. whatever. tom cruise is still creepy.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US) - 9/10 - honestly, i think this did an even better job as an adaptation than the Swedish version in some areas, particularly with the epilogue. do like

Joe Maddison's War (2010)

Quote:
Joe Maddison's War is a moving period drama filled with comedy, sadness and joy. Written by multi-award winning writer Alan Plater (Last of The British Bombshells, A Very British Coup).

Joe Maddison's War stars Kevin Whatley (Lewis, The Children), Robson Green (Wire In The Blood, Northern Lights), Derek Jacobi (The Old Curiosity Shop, Cadfael), Melanie Hill, (Stardust, The Street), Trevor Fox (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Emmerdale) and John Woodvine (Vanity Fair, Z Cars).

This war-time drama, set in Newcastle in 1939, depicts the story of Joe (Kevin Whatley) a shipyard worker who feels past his prime. He is told he is too old to serve in the war and is dismayed when his wife leaves him for a younger naval officer. Joe and his friend Harry (Robson Green) reluctantly volunteer to join the Home Guard, where he begins a journey of self-discovery, heroism, friendship and love.

Source & IMDB

Entertaining enough I suppose 6/10

Carnage 7/10

Entertaining film about 2 couples fighting over one of their kids smacking the shit out of the other one. The whole thing takes place in 1 room but it manages to stay interesting and rather lolsy anyway, quite liked it.

The Infidel - 7/10 - muslim guy discovers he's adopted and that his biological parents were jewish. identity crisis hilarity ensues. highly implausible, from the american jewish cab driver (in london? really?) who teaches him jew stuff, to the silly feelgood ending, but quite a few lol-worthy moments all the same. plus omid djalili is fucking gold

Agree, would say 9/10. Was totally absorbed in the mystery while watching, guessed right about who the killer was.
