Double map madness

Post by fKd »

Hello my quake3world friends!

Today I am dropping a double dose of maps i've just released. Both these maps **REQUIRE** the CNQ3 1.52 exes to run, otherwise they are dark as hell. Its due to a new way that external lightmaps are being processed. If you wonder why its too dark, thats why!

Both these are very much designed for CPMA so grab that as well.

Grab the exes here: https://playmorepromode.com/downloads

The first map is a remake of cpm24, i've been working on this a long time and i'm really happy to finally get it out the door :)

The second is a layout that I did the gfx for called bones_fkd. The original layout was designed by Terifire and with input from a group of folk and many iterations here it is.

Hope you guys enjoy em.

**Note**
I've pulled the links as I'm going to rebuild them with backwards compatibility in mind, updates coming at some point.

These are really excellent pieces of work, look beautiful and demonstrate some great mapping skills. I find them very inspirational and have been closely studying them both for ideas for my own mapping.

You should be proud. I encourage everyone to check them out.

Absolutely beautiful. This stuff makes me happy! It made me think of back in the day when, Swelt, was originally working on cpm24, and after he released it, I reviewed it on .::LvL. I miss those days. Seeing these also makes me flashback to when Reflex Arena first came out and they had put up that pic of what looks like a futuristic cpm3, with textures that Reflex never made happen. These maps look somewhat like that. To think if maps like this were being made long ago, people would have gone crazy over them.

Q3A still owns, 20 years later!

I have run around these levels now a few times and looked them over.

I think the bones level looks very nice actually. The cpm24 level I felt was a bit too dark, even with "correct settings".

But yea, that bones level, that was nice running around looking at things inside and outside of the level boundaries!

Good job!

That's weird, none of the testers reported it being too dark. By correct settings you mean cnq3 right?

Ah yea, too dark (for me that is), like the light was a bit uneven in the level, it's probably good for playing in!

Outstanding work again fKd, especially bones. It'e great to still see maps developed.

A few minor nitpicks for bones:
- the fence shader seems to have a very high sort and will draw on top of simple items and the mega health bubble
- there's z-fighting on the ladder to RA
- the nook to drop down to RA platform could double up as a way to double jump/ramp jump back up. I thought it might work but the slope is too steep.

These screenshots look great but it seems like the download links are down? (Not on lvlworld yet either. Did you submit them?)

Btw, there is some discussion about this new implementation of engine-brightened lightmaps, I'm curious about your opinion on it: https://github.com/ec-/Quake3e/issues/8 ... -755356918

Nevermind, they're in the CPMA map pack.
