This one's new on me. All of a sudden my mouse pointer has started to freeze onscreen at random intervals. Can be up to every few seconds, for up to a second at a time. Rather bloody annoying really. It's as if Windows is hanging up, but the cursor seems to still move invisibly, despite being frozen somewhere on the screen. If i click something nothing happens until the cursor icon unfreezes.
It's also showing the wrong icons on the cursor itself, for instance if i hover over the GD link, instead of giving the finger icon for the link it stays as an arrow. If i hover over plain background, it shows the link icon and if i hover over my steam games window it shows the text entry icon. When it shows the text icon it also appears to look corrupt.

Any ideas before i start tearing things apart frantically looking to fix this shit? Been on the latest Nvidia betas for a couple days. Gonna try a rollback. Tried unplugging all USB devices, gonna reinstall mouse driver. Win7 64.

Apears to be the Nvidia driver. Once i'd booted to safe mode / rolledback and rebooted all was fine. Except the BSOD when i plugged my USb drive back in.
So either the Nvidia betas are fucky, or my Win7 has gotten corrupt less than 3 weeks after purchase :L

just did some reading and it appears it's a common issue with win7 and 5870 vid card, updating bios fixes it.

Probably would have been better if you had actually read the OP and subsequent self-reply. :dork:

i got a huge hangover

but he didn't mention his vid card or mouse, the nvidia driver could be a mobo driver with an ATI card

Silly SoM :)

No similar problems since btw. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend the 290.53 betas. The ones before that were also crashing themselves for no good reason. Fine playing games, but watching an .avi or just web browsing, they would randomly cause a blackscreen and then pop-up with 'display driver stopped responding and has recovered.
I'm back on 285.62 whql.
