Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Sound Card don't care for the fatal1ty name on it, but reading the review it sounds like a nice card, my last sound blaster card was SBLive. |

People still buy dedicated sound cards? Yeah sure, if you're into recording music or audio editing or something (in which case I doubt Creative is a good choice), but to play games? What does it offer that a run-of-the-mill onboard sound chip doesn't? |

More like better marketing to chumps. Creative does not offer better sound quality, just padded specs and software "enhancements". |

I can tell the difference between onboard sound and a dedicated card, even if it may just be a placebo. Now if you said there is no difference in sound quality between my X-Fi Titanium and whatever the latest overpriced crap is with Fatality's name smeared all over it, I would agree wholeheartedly. It's all a moot point if you have bad speakers though. |

I'm with Mazda on this, I bought a soundcard last year because the onboard one was having issue with BC2 causing it to crash and I got a noticeable improvement to sound quality, especially when using headphones. I also got a slight increase in FPS (only about 1-2, but still, an increase none the less) I have a Xonar D2X http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... leshopping |

Phant, not saying there aren't fantastic sound cards on the market (Asus Xonars are decent), just saying that Creative hasn't made any decent cards in many years. There are definitely some serious sound cards out there, especially those targeted to those doing audio recording. I've owned some M-Audio interface/sound cards and there is definitely a difference in quality. Motherboards also vary, low end boards get interference, static and shitty drivers. Other motherboards will offer decent sound quality for most entertainment needs. The more discerning enthusiasts and audio professionals should be looking at professional sound cards as an upgrade, most onboard audio will sound just as good or superior to Creative. And agreed Mazda, top everything off with a decent set of speakers/headphones. My earbuds cost more than my iPod (no, they are NOT Beats). |

From the article: Quote: If you are currently shopping for a new sound card that will provide you with a much better all-around audio experience than what your recent onboard sound already provides, then the Recon3D sound cards in any of its three forms is likely not for you. Listening to music with the Recon3D Fata1ty Pro sound card was a disappointing experience to say the least. Our movie experience in both stereo and 5.1 modes was slightly better, but still a very hit and miss situation.
Creative's past hardware-based Audigy and X-Fi cards with and without the I/O bays offered more value over these cards simply because those were superior performing products for the time when used for movies, music, and games. Those solutions are still simply better than what we have today in the Creative Sound Blaster Recond3D series. |

Why not just go with a good stereo USB DAC/headphone amp combo? A couple of popular and affordable examples... http://www.headfonia.com/audinst-hud-mx1-dac/ http://www.headfonia.com/the-latest-mus ... sb-dacamp/ |
