What was the Q3 origin? As I hardly remember, there was a project called TRINITY and here'e my question - was it some of the engine's name or separate game, kind of single player fpp? I've read in some game magazines (issues of summer 1998) that Carmack cancelled TRINITY and that there were also some Quake II Mission Pack (made by ID themselves, not to be confused Xatrix's or Rouge's ones) which finally evolved into Q3 idea.

I'd be grateful if anyone could explain it. Besides, if someone has got some early Q3'screenshots, please paste them here, I've seen the only in dew old polish game magazines which threw out many years ago.

Not exactly a screenshot, but...it's neat none the less, though I've never heard of this Trinity project, I also found an FAQ that mentions it.

Interesting stuff in the "System Requirements" section.

Good luck.

Hah, there used to be a flamethrower weapon but id took it out (unfortunately) for who knows what reason. Also, lol when you fire weapons it doesn`t drain your ammo, it drains your health.

Isn't that video from the leaked IHV release?
Shame they took out the cool lightning effect from the sky shaders.

They've talked about that before. Basically, gameplay wise, the flamethrower would be like a laggy LG with a DoT, and they didn't feel they could make it work and be worthwhile.

The map that's in that video is in the LostArena mod, along with the SG and the PG skin.

'Quake 3 doesn't really use the "Trinity" engine. It still uses

the Quake engine. The story is that Trinity was going to be Carmack's

next engine but he changed his mind and just progressively upgraded the

Quake engine.

'John Carmack: The official codename for the next generation game engine is "trinity".'

Damn, so Trinity was kind of engine, not a separate fpp game?
