Even by today's standard, the real-time metal reflection in quake 3 q3tourney 4 looks beautiful. It approximates a dx9 effect with OpenGL1.2
This is a semi-reflective material (unlike a mirror).
I wonder could this reflection be applied to other non-reflective materials in quake 3, suck as wall bricks? This would make stones a polished granite effect.

There are some q3 team Arena maps that have the effect applied to marble textures, giving them a shiny look.
Technically, it is applicable to any surface but it may not always look appropriate on every texture.
