Hello sir,
Looks a solid build. Perhaps an extra mechanical drive as well for back up purposes?

Also go Corsair where you can

Thank you Don Carlos. Good thought.Don Carlos wrote:Hello sir,

Yes, even thought I have multiple HDDs and 2 x SSDs in my old rig (I might use some the new one) I am adding a new HDD. Some of my HDDs are knocking 8 years old and that's a surprise. I have now included a 2TB Seagate.
I really like the looks of that Antec P380 I currently have the (old) P180

Looking good Whiskey. Let us know how it turns out.
Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Whiskey, try getting a 980 TI, it's faster and better at overclocking

Yes that was my thought exactlySoM wrote:Whiskey, try getting a 980 TI, it's faster and better at overclocking
I am trying to understand the differences and would appreciate your advice on the CPU choices i7-6700K 4.0GHz vs S1150 Core i7 4790K 4.00Ghz
If I am correct the i7-6700K is a Socket 1151 needs a Z170 M/b. Is that right?
Here's possibly the final specs but I am always open to and value your suggestions. The only changes I am still juggling areCode: Select all

Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
It's a decent build, but I'd go for a beefier PSU for future considerations. Get a fully modular Corsair around 850W or better. I find Antec cases dull.
Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Thanks Captain Mazda
I viewed a number of case reviews on YouTube and the Corsair Obsidian 750D is winning.
I am looking at air vs water cooling options now

Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Water cooling is the best way to go. A closed loop is worth it for the convenience factor alone, I'm really happy with my Corsair H110iGT. Just make sure the case will be compatible with large radiators.
Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Yes. Nice.
As I am going the Corsair case this has to be the one. Thanks

Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
The H110iGT will give you the same performance but at lower fan speeds, meaning it's quieter.
Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Quieter is better
Thanks for your advice.
Looking better.
Still, if you see anything, please suggest alternatives.
Getting a whole system price quote tomorrow
I can't remember that last time I opened my current DVD so I am going with an external DVD figuring DVDs are going the way of floppies and not wanting the DVD visible on front of my case.

Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Yeah don't bother with a DVD, just get a Bluray burner. I have this and it does the trick: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=62678
I find LG burners tend to die randomly, ASUS is a more reliable brand these days.

Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
Update.
Like I said, I can't remember the last time I put a DVD in my PC
I'd think it would probably be the same if I went the Blu-Ray path so I am sticking with the external DVD as I can always update/upgrade if required.
I have also gone for the Gigabyte mother board and GPU pairing. I was looking for more than the 4 SATA ports offered on the ASUS Pro Gaming.
Just ordered, then the fun bit, a Windows 10 learning curve.
Thanks all for you input/advice
EDIT: Days later after build but still installing stuff & copying data across via an external HDD I thought I'd run a graphic test to be sure

Nice, I hope you have high-end displays to complement it though. Here's mine for shits and giggles:

How much did you pay all up? I'm thinking of manning up and buying a gaming rig too, so interested to know what it cost you in AUD.Whiskey 7 wrote:Update.

Thick, solid, tanned and tight in all the right places... smashing 10's on the regular.
Re: Whiskey 7 - New PC Build October 2015
A little more than my budget was but I am happy to part with $3435 (AUD).
I am pretty happy with the whole setup and I've yet to install those extra and spare SSDs (2) and HDD (1) from the old rig.
Cheers to Captain Mazda and the suggested H110iGT. It is so quiet.
Think I mentioned earlier, I had the shop put it all together for a price of course that's hidden in the cost of components, as I am a little lazy these days.

Excellent build! Glad you decided to go with the 980ti, much better card for a couple extra bucks.
Here's mine, all factory clocked. 980ti = 2x sli 780ti
