Made my first assassination in Venice this weekend. Yup, I'm taking my time. Have done pretty much every activity available in each of the cities though.

Got it when it was on steam sale weeks ago and have been very slowly running through it. Dunno why exactly i'm going so slow, it's like i don't want it to be over maybe :D

Agree with what Tzatziki says, it's too easy. Goes for the fights, the quests and the stealth system (which you barely ever need because it's so piss easy to down your wanted level). You indeed get the feeling it could have been much better. Kind of split about the controls, which seem very much catered towards a gamepad. I now seem to have figured them out well enough, but jesus christ at the start things were completely frustrating (press green to do X... but what the fuck is green??). That asshole Ezio will sometimes still insist on leaping in the completely wrong direction and falling to his death, but these incidents are increasingly rare now... But yeah, the voice acting is good, the story is decent and the leveldesign is just breathtaking. I'm very much enjoying the whole exploring aspect of it, i'm nowhere near done seeing all there is to see :)

By the way, if you get this game on steam do yourself a favor and find out immediately how to turn the local save option on, before you start playing. It's some DDR bullshit that doesn't work on PC apparently, my first game wouldn't save at all due to some ridiculous decision by a marketing cunt and it took me a few hours to find out what the deal was. Crazy stuff: apparently when it first came out they didn't fix it and no PC player could save their game, at all. There's a shitload of really angry threads about this issue on the steam forums, makes for lulzy reading if that sort of thing entertains you.

Yeah, thats still a problem in the race events for me. Too often Ezio just doesn't do what I want him to do.

Oh at this point I'm not sure what to make of the whole 2012 backstory. It just seems so pointless that I wonder why they even bothered with it.

I've found and solved 2/3rds of all the glyphs so far and it doesn't really add a whole lot to it all yet. I can see how it all ties together though, but I think the exposure to what's happening in 2012 is far too low to really get a feeling for it. The storyline you follow with Ezio is 10 times more interesting. I really don't care about Desmond the slightest bit, simply because I've been him a whopping 10 minutes at most (and yes, I did the training after dna sequence 6 or 7 or so).

The fact that Ezio's storyline about the whole conspiracy is interesting enough to hold up the game is saving its grace, because the reason why I'm in the Animus running around in 17th century Italy completely escapes me. Maybe they uncover a lot more about it in the end, but its all too little too late I think.

I will put this small disclaimer here as a future failsafe in case they present a whopping bloody awesome ending: I haven't played it all the way through yet :)

So, I finished Assassin's Creed 2 last weekend, unlocked all achievements.
Right now I'm thinking how long I should wait with Brotherhood. The GT.com review says it's basically more of the same so I don't want to dive into it too quickly, out of fear of having a massive Assassin's Creed overload. I'm digging into Beyond Good & Evil HD right now but that will only keep me occupied for so long....

I do appreciate the modern day backstory of AC2 a bit more now that I've seen the end, but still.... all the Desmond bits feel tacked on and your team comes across as a bunch of incompetent muppets. Also, but maybe this is because I've never played the first game, the significance of Desmond getting visions outside of the Aenimus and dreaming of Altaïr and his lover completely goes by me.

*WARNING: Spoiler (highlight hidden text to read it)*
After reading all of the 30 codex pages and seeing the finale of the game the thing that most impressed me was the way in which the game blatantly said that religion and christianity as it is now is based completely on false ideas. Quite a bold reality to shape in a game.

Memphis, go ahead and get AC2 if you want to. You really do not have to have any experience with AC1 to understand the whole story. It may help to read the plot synopsis of AC1 on WikiPedia or some other site to give a slight bit of insight into the happenings of the first game, but one can play AC2 well without playing AC1.

At first you feel like you're supposed to know a lot of things to truly appreciate AC2, but soon enough you'll figure out that it is not the case and that the game assumes no real prior knowledge.

Odd posts, because this is the case in AC2.
If you run into a guy holding a crate in front of guards and he drops the crate, the guard will get mad at you.

ps:
why can't guards swim? That's just retarded.

Oh who cares. The thing is that it made it way too easy to avoid guards in Venice. Just jump into the water, swim a bit and you've shaken them off.

So i open my Assassins Creed II game which i have not touched in a few weeks and lo and behold, my savegame is gone. A-fucking-gain. Don't know if it's related, but their supremely gay launcher insisted on being updated, now giving me an utterly useless shiney new window to close before i can start the game.

...last time i ever get a ubisoft game, what a bunch of cunts.

Yeah it's cool. Brotherhood's good too. Various sources here at Q3W say Revelations is not so good.

The series definitely peaks with Brotherhood. But avoid Revelations like the plague. It's a hastily done cash-grab. Watch all the story elements on YouTube rather than buying the game.

for a game called Revelations, it doesnt reveal much.
the ending was pretty weak.

AC2's ending, that was a Revelation.

Apparently, and this makes Revelations even shitter in my eyes, they revealed in the DLC that *SPOILER* Lucy was actually a Templar all along *SPOILER*. I mean WTF, one of the massive questions you're left asking at the end of Brotherhood and they can't even see fit to reveal the answer in the main Revelations game? Fuck Ubi.

came in to post that.
the DLC sounded interesting, but its 2 hours of more tedious platforming bullshit in which they drop one of the biggest plotpoints.
now I don't mind the quality of the dlc so much, but who thought it was a good idea to include a major twist in a piece of content they know not everybody is going to have?
how does that work exactly?

also, spending another two hours getting all the fragments so you get the "true" ending is seriously not worth it. a black screen with four lines of text which dont add anything. goodie.
