Decent start to the new season (and I can't believe it has been a year already... holy fuck, time flies)

I did find the whole gus/meth lab scene a tad contrived and it was also quite predictable what was gonna happen, but the execution (if you pardon the pun) was done flawlessly as usual. Also great to see Walt taking a shit into his poop bowl, while ordering minerals on ebay :olo:

I assume the premise for this season is the ongoing tension between walt/jessie + gus, as they conspire against each other until the inevitable final shitstorm. Sounds good to me and I hope they show more of gus' true character, as they did in last nights episode. He has played the placid bad guy for too long, it's time to get nasty. More saul too! He's one of the best characters on the show.

Anyway, a decent 8/10 episode. I'm sure we'll get much better as the season progresses.

I didn't think 4.1 was all that amazing but I'm looking forward to Walt being more of a bad ass.

WARNING SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

Somehow making the decision of killing that chemist, has a negative effect in my perception of Walt. It somehow shits all over his character, and what i thought it stood for.... which up to now I had found, cool, collected and calculated while still keeping a higher ethic than the people around him in the drug scene.
He has lowered himself to their level which could accurately be described as nothing more than self serving and uninhibitedly destructive.

In my eyes , he needs to do something brilliant to lift himself above the status quo of simply being just another drug cook.
However, the show has great acting, excellent scene direction and the audio is masterfully done, .....that's what keeps it above the rest for me. But they better get the essence of Walt back in line. Now this direction change could be purposely done, to show that when you get your self in knee deep shit, there isn't much you can do to keep from smelling like it.

imo they made him look like a blubbering BITCH in the premiere, kinda made me wish Gus would've taken the boxcutters to him instead.

He said it himself, if it's a choice between any other drug chemist and himself/jessie, then he'll choose the latter every time. Obviously he's self-serving, he was about to get blown away :olo:

Of course it's morally ambiguous. That's the whole point of the show anyway. We liked the dealers on the Wire for exactly the same reason. Even the most abhorrent person isn't bad all the time. I doubt we'll get a happy ending in this show either.

Yea I think the departure from the old Walt was inevitable. I've seen it as a progression from "square" to full-on criminal and I think we're going to keep seeing him sliding down into darkness until it is the end of him.

I agree with this, it's been a slow downward spiral.
Glad the show's back anyway, nice first ep :)

It's certainly a slow start to the season, even by Breaking Bad's standards. C'mon Heisenberg, ruin some peoples shit already.

Eps 3+4 have been pretty boring. Ep. 4 was slightly better. "Aren't you going to ask where we're going?"
"Nope."

I like Mike's character, I feel like he could have been played by George Carlin (pbuh) if he were still alive.

Also the last episode of season 3 had one of the best lines in TV ever: "<Gale's address> ... Yeah."

BB always did like to take things slow though. The buildups are sustained for as long as they can and just as you're in danger of losing interest, you get scenes like that epic car shooting with Hank. That whole moment wouldn't have been anywhere near as effective were it not for the suspense leading up to it.

I think it's pretty obvious that the back end of this particular season is going to be absolutely insane. If it means a bit more dialogue foreplay and rock (sorry, mineral) collecting until the shit really does get real, then i'm down with it.

probably, this is how it will play on the mobile platform (replace gun with finger) or they just added that bit of prop cause that's what the BrBa producer was looking for, to make that flashback tie in better.

edit

or there will be a wii version :olo:

That wasn't a flashback, I thought that was just present time.

Yeah. Made me doubt whether this season will be about the deal with gus going wrong which is what i've been assuming so far. Maybe the greater evil is the other cartel.

Gus is a badass. So is Mike. I cant stand Walter, his family, Hank and Jesse anymore...some of them should be killed off.

They're the most eminently hateable main character I've ever seen. Needs a spin-off miniseries just about Mike and Saul.

sure, they don't posses the glamour of the fantastic four, but i think it's a great way to depict otherwise normal people, living their lives. Sure the cop doesn't have a drinking problem with a haunting past of his wife being killed by some hardened criminal, that has now ruined his will to live, and fueled him with vengeance ....but i think we had enough of those. Matter of fact, this guy is probably the closest depiction of a real cop that I've seen on any show. The same goes for the rest of the 'boring' cast.

Walt for instance... I mean what do you want? he is a school teacher that later in life, very pragmatically, realized the true state of his situation and did something about it, in a way that doesn't have to convince us that the sky isn't blue, and that teachers are the moral standard of our society.
Jesse, he aggravates the shit out of me, and that's a pretty good depiction of someone of his type...he is not likeable because he is really not supposed to be. There was no grand intervention when he went into business with Walt... he didn't evolve, he is still a fucking punk with glimpses of humanity and redemption that will never prevail.

If anything, Gus and Mike are the most fictitious characters on the show...figures.
Questioning the choice of these characters, only goes to show you that you might just be missing the point of this show. Go watch Weeds instead.
