My Grandson, who was born on May 19 of this year, was killed by a drunk driver last night. He was my Daughters whole life. He was a beautiful little boy and the hearts of our whole family are broken.

Please don't drink and drive.

Thank you.

That's a total bummer, man. :(

Every time my friends and I go out drinking, I always try to get a sense of who is and isn't capable of driving as the night progresses. More often than not, I'll end up cutting myself off while I still have enough sense to do so and I'll appoint myself designated driver. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something terrible happened that I knew I could have prevented with a little foresight.

That's just it. I've driven drunk more than I care to admit. Though I've not hurt anyone... NOW, every time is right there in my head. I failed my Grandson before he was born. And no matter how many times I drive sober, I will never make it up to him. I will not get into the drivers seat again after drinking. He still won't come Home to his Family.

Thank you Men for your words. They DO help, maybe more than you realize.

Goodnight.

That is absolutely dreadful news to hear - especially for someone so young. My condolences to your family, and hope that no one else is hurt. :(

Maybe not the right thread to say this, but man, you act like you're all in control and everything, but what you're doing is just plainly the wrong way of going about it. If you go out with friends and you know alcohol is going to be involved, appoint a driver who won't drink a single drop of alcohol before the first beer is ordered.

You are never able to correctly judge someone's ability to drive in a situation like that, especially not if you've been drinking yourself.

I live within walking distance of a bar, so we typically don't need a designated driver. Sometimes someone gets the bright idea to go to another bar or something. In the few occasions I think that might happen, I stop drinking. Usually it's all for nothing and I can convince them to go back to my place, but the people I hang out with are hard to dissuade once they get an idea in their heads. If I know driving will be involved, I do just what you said, I abstain from drinking anything altogether.

I assume the driver is in custody and it wasn't a hit and run or anything like that if it's knowm he was drunk? Truly terrible news man. Condolences. :(.

Also: I've never driven while under the influence and never will.

Terra is deeply touched by the responses in this thread. I am grateful to you all. Though in unimaginable pain right now, she took the time to read it, and was moved. Thank you, fellows.
