The problem with Origin is that it reports back to EA's home base servers info about all the games installed on your machine...pirated or legit. Piracy debate aside it's nobody's business which games or other software I have installed on my machine.

I haven't played ME yet, but this t-shirt is supposed to make fans of the series giggle like little schoolgirls. I'm perplexed.

I hope no one here is a completionist....because buying everything will end up costing $870

http://www.platformnation.com/2012/02/2 ... -cost-870/

It's important to point out that some of the merchandise unlocks the same content, making it unnecessary to buy everything in order to get all the unlockables, but wow....that's a lot of product they're trying to push.

I'm curious what most of you think of the day 1 DLC. I can't remember ever seeing that in a game before, do you think it will catch on and start becoming the norm? I have no doubt most AAA titles would be able to get away with it very easily and as people got used to it, smaller titles would be able to start also.

Day 1 DLC is an utter piss-take to any long-term gamer. Everyone else won't give a fuck and will actually defend the shit, so the real fans of gaming get ignored and the masses get fucked a little bit deeper by corperate cock AND ENJOY IT. Fuck my species.

As long as people keep buying DLC, publishers will keep pushing it out there. I do agree that day 1 DLC is shitty though and there's absolutely no reason it couldn't have been in the actual game. Blatant cash grab, but then it's EA we're talking about. Did you expect anything less?

Most Mass Effect DLC has been utterly shite in the past anyway, with the exception of LotSB. I doubt we'll miss much if we skip it.

Apparently they began work on it after they finished the retail game
Quote:
It takes about 3 months from 'content complete' to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC...

Warning: Spoilers
It's kind of hard to believe they weren't working on the DLC and the retail game simultaneously. It's hard to believe that after they finished the game no one took vacations and they started working on a DLC like the next day and were able to finish that in 2-3 months.
Like you said, most of the Mass Effect dlc has been extremely forgettable, so I'm going to hold out for dlc reviews before I make a decision. I'm not mad like a lot of people though, just disappointed. They could have just put a code in the manual so people who buy new copies get the extra content and wouldn't have riled up so many long time fans. Hopefully it doesn't set a bad precedent going forward. As much as people like to say "people should boycott," it'll never happen. Video games are like booze, no matter the econmic or the person's employment status, even broke people will find a way to scrounge up as much cash as it takes. $10 won't sway them.

On a lighter note, time to play through the first two games again or I won't remember what decisions I made. Haha all the decisions I made in the first game were the default decisions you're given in the second if you never played the first...apparently I'm predictable so I'll have to change it up.

So don't you receive the day 1 DLC if you preorder the game? That seems easier...

No, but you get it if you buy the Collector's Edition. The Collector's Edition is $20 more than the retail game though, so if all you want is the DLC you're better off buying the game for $60 and buying the DLC separately for $10. Most people just have to remember it's an optional purchase and hopefully the DLC doesn't carry much weight story wise. If it's just some backstory about a single angsty character who happens to be a prothean, it doesn't seem like you'd be missing out on anything by skipping it. One would think they'd tie up the Prothean loose ends in the main story and not save huge revelations for the DLC.

Got this is writing anywhere? Sounds a little exaggerated that it hunts down pirated game files. I know that if you log into an EA account in a game, ran via Steam, Origin can get wind of it and auto-add the game to your account. But I also have EA games currently installed on Steam, that I haven't started up since installing Origin, thus they aren't showing yet.

I'm replaying through the first one now. As clunky as some aspects feel compared to the second game, I really like the character development in the first game. Leveling up is a lot more fun and choosing which categories to put not only your character's points into, but your squad mates' as well, makes it a lot more strategic than the bastardized version of it they used in ME2. They dumbed it down a ton for ME2, does anyone know if there going to try to aim for the middle ground with regards to character development? Or will it just stay the same as ME2?
Also, shotguns....shotguns in the first game are awesome...shotguns in the second game are worthless. I'm particularly curious because the Vanguard wasn't very fun to play in ME2 when the shotgun felt like a welt noodle.

sorry if my questions were answered in the demo, I don't have internet access on my 360 at the moment.

I can't wait to vanguard again in ME3. Having played the other classes, I'd have to say it's by far the most fun and "kinetic".
