The very first thing I would do is setup an investment plan where I could cash out around 100k per year in pure interest. Buy an amazing waterfront house with plenty of land and a few exotic cars. Fund some game development projects.

The amount of taxes taken out is very high and if you elect for an upfront payout you get far, far less than what you won. It looks like this payout would be $426, which is still a lot. But even that is beside the point. A lot of athletes, musicians, and average Joes who win the lottery end up broke as fuck because they have that same mindset. "$40 million? I could spend the fuck out of a few hundred million. I know myself well enough to know I'd need sound financial planning from the start.

I'm curious, if you took out the 400 mil or whatever you have after you win and just hid it in your own personal safe and didn't declare that money would the government be able to tax you on it?
