Can't you watch next weeks episode on HBO GO? I know they were doing that last year. That's probably what it is...

I just don't like to watch it on HBO Go, cause then I've gotta wait 2 weeks until a new episode.

But HBO Go is now in Xbox 360. Which is fucking awesome...

Ep 1 is epic. Makes me wonder how many women the dirty old king impregnated. They showed quite a lot of them bastard childs getting killed.

Not sure if the actress they picked for Melisandre is hot or red enough. She also doesn't seem to have the burning conviction the character does in the books. Meh, we'll see.

It really did Mazda. Robert's true children, albeit bastards, would have a greater claim to the throne than Joffrey, the incestuous offspring of Cersei & Jaime. And that bit in the first series? "The blood runs true"? It's telling you that all of Robert's real offspring possess his dark hair. The book does a better job of pointing this out, but it's essentially the crux of the plot point.

Oh ok, I haven't started the second book yet and the TV show made it seem they killed off the bastard children with no prejudice.

Sure, but you do realise that this is also why Eddard was killed in the first book / series, don't you? It's crucial to the story. To miss that is pretty special.

Eddard was killed because he knew the truth about the Lannister bloodline. Joffrey, however, didn't.

Yes, but as pointed out by Tyrion, Cersei could have prevented Eddard's death, but didn't. It was easier for her with him out of the way and no-one else following the trail of Robert's bastards. The Herod-esque purge of dark-haired children is just the extreme reaction to Stannis distributing this fact to all and sundry via raven. Stannis is in a weaker position than Eddard was, sure, as he has no actual proof, but better to be safe than sorry, eh?

Yes, it's Carice van Houten. An award winning Dutch actress. She is a good actress but she didn't convince me either (without knowing the character). She lacks that bigger than life impression all of these fantasy characters have. Also, she has a very apparent Dutch accent, which I find really distracting because it's so recognizable for me.

Yes that's what I say. It's very recognizable for me and yes, that's probably because I am Dutch. I dunno, I just found it to be distracting. Then again, maybe we're far more aware of her because we know who she is. Then again, I didn't have the same problem with Sean Boromir.

I was actually surprised with Carice's acting. she did a good job, and she almost - almost - did it without accent. good on her

I think as long as you're not Dutch, the accent adds an air of the exotic to the character; it's one of the few things I actually approve of in her casting, as the character is supposed to be very mysterious and strange, and the unique accent helps with that.

In all seriousness, it's the slight twang that adds flavour. Not being Dutch, it didn't sound Dutch to me, just interestingly different. And let's face it, how many Americans are going to be able to pin that down as being a Dutch accent?
