Never played 'em tbh. All I know is Malcolm McDowell's in one of 'em.
In fact, despite hearing good things about WC, Freelancer, Freespace and other spacey simmy games, I've never actually bothered to play any. Therefore I'm sure I will try this, I think. Not sure tho.

Anyhoo this 'remake' is free, has multiplayer and runs on the Freespace 2 engine. Some may like. If not, well fuck you innit, what have you done for me lately.

Played it a bit. Pretty fun, important to note that ALT+A skips the boring flying bits and moves you to the next waypoint. The GUI has a few bugs and not all the binds actually do anything, but pretty good for an amateur game remake.

Best space sim is TIE-Fighter. They need a remake of this game, I'd love to be able to zip between high poly Star Destroyers and hunt down rebel scum.

BTW, there is currently no multiplayer. Devs haven't added it yet. Co-op would be sick. :(

my favorite space game was homeworld... has some fighter action, plus some RPG elements that add meaning to the action. Loved that game!

Have you even played Homeworld? It's a space RTS. It has no RPG elements and you don't get to fly the fighters. That's like calling Company of Heroes a WWII FPS game because you get to control the groups of little men around on the ground. :dork:

Sadly, Google isn't a substitute for a brain. I don't see how you can forget something that is your "favourite". Why just the other day I forgot my favourite person in this world is my wife. Oh wait, I forgot I'm not married.

You're probably thinking of Freelancer.

I wish someone would finish this game:

Due to lack of funding, the developer had to shelve it. I'd love to see someone create a game like this. The sound effects in this video are pretty intense as well.

It also reminds me of the game Incoming which was available for PC and Dreamcast. It was far from perfect, but a seriously enjoyable 3D shoot 'em up type of game

huge difference between Freelancer and TIE-Fighter "as a space sim" though.
TIE was more of an action game in space. a good one mind. not as awesome as rogue leader on the 'cube.. that was the shit. co-op included.

You're all wrong, Epic was the best space sim/shooter ever.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starglider

pretty much a souped up version of Atari's Star Wars

In my memory Starfox is still the most awesomest space shooter ever.
But much like how you liked certain movies as a kid, rewatching/replaying would probably be disappointing.

Good game, but I always wanted to shoot down my wingmen, sooo irritating. Especially Falco or whatever his name was.
