He looks a bit like a gnome, but it's a pretty impressive achievement.
I wonder how he built the software. Did he write a 3D graphics engine from scratch?

My bet would be that he created something to map all the inputs into keystrokes and made it a glorified controller. Or perhaps he is piecing together professional grade components from real training sims. The only reason I don't think he didn't write it all from scratch is the quality of the world data they were showing and the fact that he said he could fly anywhere in the world.
