Capitalism
Re: Capitalism
W.d.; shame he offered no solution, though. I mean, yeah, he says vote for someone else, but people don't.

behold, his majesty the king of lame debate team responses. this is how failures try to put the onus back on people who call them out on their failureDTS wrote:he offered no solution

what a load of wank... bla bla bla. fuck off and die already...
Re: Capitalism
While the point he's trying to make is valid, it could've been made clear in a single sentence. The rest is just padding which makes the whole thing read like a pointless rant.

Re: Capitalism
I just made the effort to read all of this and some of it is right but most of it is shit. Not getting that time back :/
Re: Capitalism
Not great. Opening paragraph is decent, but it just devolves into a pretty stupid rant. It reminded me of the kind of writing you see from early-20's middle class students who think they speak for the working classes, or something you'd expect to find in the comments section of the Telegraph or Guardian website.
Edit: Searched for the passage on the internet, and it indeed originated in the comments section of the Guardian website.

Re: Capitalism
I'm actually doing research on psychopaths (which is why I've been making the references so often lately...lol) and how much damage they do. Your article states four times more likely, but most indicators show that you are actually seven times more likely to find psychopaths in top level business and government positions then you would find in the general population.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:http://www.thestar.com/business/article/1222162--psychopathy-and-the-ceo-top-executives-have-four-times-the-incidence-of-psychopathy-as-the-rest-of-us

So if you squint...to some extent...the world is literally run by nutters.
Re: Capitalism
Maybe they're just stressed out cause they work so hard?
Re: Capitalism
Which doesn't surprise me, and I don't mean that in a cynical "the world has gone to shit" way. I think that to do extraordinary things you need to be somewhat out of the ordinary. If you're an average person, you'll be doing average things.GONNAFISTYA wrote:So if you squint...to some extent...the world is literally run by nutters.
Those few people that rise above the rest and become highly successful probably got there because they have an out-of-the-ordinary level of dedication or devotion to what they're doing, or they have a different way of looking at things which lets them think in different ways than the average person who takes everything that's presented to him for granted.
Genius and success doesn't come from doing exactly what's expected of you.

I'm guessing they got where they are precisely because they don't feel empathy: to get ahead they will step on others not just from necessity but with glee...they take real satisfaction in manipulating others and plot & scheme as a matter of course.Eraser wrote:Those few people that rise above the rest and become highly successful probably got there because they have an out-of-the-ordinary level of dedication or devotion to what they're doing, or they have a different way of looking at things which lets them think in different ways than the average person who takes everything that's presented to him for granted.
A very large percentage of successful people in the entertainment industry suffer from mental illness. With comedians it's mostly depression.Eraser wrote:Genius and success doesn't come from doing exactly what's expected of you.

Without mental illness, would we have the artistic culture that we have today?

We don't have an artistic culture...
In short, you could say we have a capitalist culture. Art is usually the last consideration in any modern-day endeavour.

Re: Capitalism
Maybe as it relates to purely financial endeavors, but ever since Louis Sullivan, art is a major part of everything we make/create, not just in architecture but in all industrial design.DTS wrote:We don't have an artistic culture...

Stop being so dismissive.
