Well, nowadays with lazy developers, I can't blame mod teams for trying to do stuff now. I like the fact that Id has shown to be workign on a patch just weeks after realease. Truthfully speaking, I am not holding my breathe for it. That's just from past experience with other games/developers. I'm new to Quake so I wouldn't know any past experiences the community had with Id.
id has always been pretty good, but who knows.
Q4 is hardly dead, there are people playing in North America every night, you can always find a server with a bunch of people. When a decent patch is released hopefully we see a lot of people pick it up, but either way I think it will be played for some time.
I dont know about warsow, why wouldnt I just play cpma?

1) the patch is not going to be anything special, itll be what "they think" fixes things.
2) q4max and xbattle are like, nothing, their minor changes. did you even read my post that i linked whatsoever? no. and i wrote that weeks ago.
3) warsow puts cpmas physics to shame, just not its attention to detail and gameplay.
heres how i see it....
go play q4 all day havin fun laggin your nutz off. then go play some q3 defrag or baseq3. it will speak for itself. EVEN IF you have a super machine the gameplay is still bad, and the 63fps still hurts my eyes. its no different from running around with your monitors display refresh set at 60hz. the most ive seen so far is 77, the engine is set up backwards from q3, instead of "setting" your max fps, the game has a peak at 60 which rounds up to 63. the game will run higher, your machine just has to push it up to the 124/125 now. this will take a few years for them to allow us to even own this hardware.
ive mentioned this to about 30 ppl and they all agree with me.

no, boxjumping is a feature of quake2, like rampjumping is too..
try "the edge" on quake2, and jump the boxes up, where the armor is.
if you press jump more often, you can "climb" up these boxes pretty fast.
this doesn't work without the boxes.
if you want up there without box jumping (try in quake4 "over the edge"),
you'd need to jump every single box once to get there.
that takes too much time in such a fast game.

The entire engine is geared for 60 fps and it isn't going to change so far as I know. There is nothing to be gained by increasing the fps cap but for some reason that seems to be a difficult concept for some people to grasp. IMO it's only a problem because people are used to Quake 3's 125fps "sweet spot".Runningman wrote:EVEN IF you have a super machine the gameplay is still bad, and the 63fps still hurts my eyes. its no different from running around with your monitors display refresh set at 60hz. the most ive seen so far is 77, the engine is set up backwards from q3, instead of "setting" your max fps, the game has a peak at 60 which rounds up to 63. the game will run higher, your machine just has to push it up to the 124/125 now. this will take a few years for them to allow us to even own this hardware.

In terms of the doom 3 engine, it's a bad thing to unlock the fps because it starts to cause a whole lot of weird things to happen physics wise. There is a 'forcetick' command that you can unlock the cap but it obviously will not work online. I haven't tried this in q4 but in doom 3 it makes the physics really spazz out.
It may also be a case of ppl confusing fps with hz. One can force 120hz as a refresh rate in Q4 which helped me a lot with the whole sick feeling...Tormentius wrote:The entire engine is geared for 60 fps and it isn't going to change so far as I know.
