Old Skool (saltctf3)
Dan Slater left word in Q3W's "CTF Discussion" forum about this new map. "Old Skool" is well suited for either 4v4 or 8v8 play. The author says that this map was inspired by several classic Q1 maps and invites you to spot the influences throughout the map. There aren't alot of good CTF's out there, so grab this one.

A Cold Wind (rqm3arena2)
"Requiem" designed this small, multi-tiered arena map for 2v2 Team Deathmatch or tourney play. A chilling ambiance on this one...You can almost feel the chill wind on your back. This atmosphere is further enhanced by the dramatic sky and coloring of the map's upper tier. Good item placement and fast gameplay make "A Cold Wind" a winner in my books.

Tandoori Despair (pjw3quickie1)
Pat "pjw" Williams, pumped out this small, tight tourney/FFA as what he described as "a mental exercise, a short story between novels". Reminding me a bit of other "floaters", this map offers several layers of action with lots of jumppads and furious gameplay.

Early Settlers (alkdm11)
Kona, the author of "Sinda Legend" and "GrindMill", has come up with yet another refreshing departure from your standard Q3 fare. Tribute to n1*dK (cpm11)
Featuring excellent layout and item placement with good lighting, "Tribute..." by Druzli and Xfoo was originally designed for the Challenge Pro Mode. Exceptional item placement and numerous teleporters mean players have to be on their toes while playing this medium sized map. At just over 1 MB, this map would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection.

McKinley's Vengeance (q3mckinley)
First appearing for the ThreeWave CTF Quake mod, then called McKinley Base, this map was a classic from day one. Eraser has rekindled this classic series of CTF's with the third incarnation of McKinley. Utilizing textures from [HFX], Eraser has done a fine job in capturing the layout and architectural traits of McKinley Revival. The base is almost identical to the Quake II version and while this CTF was built from scratch, it closely resembles the original. This one's a "must have" for any map collection.

Slingshot (geit3dm1)
Geit has packaged the entire Kiltron Texture Pack within this map, making it a rather large 11 MB download. If that doesn't concern you, this is a terrific map. With lots of open spaces, "Slingshot" features a great combination of textures, architecture and good lighting.

Palingenesis (blr-dm6)
Bomerlunder has released a huge FFA based on his first map, "Tower of the damned". I debated about posting this one as the author himself has admitted that the sheer size and detail level in this map makes playing it with anything less than a power house system pretty pointless. Nonetheless, several custom textures including the fish bowl and carpeting help make this 6.5 MB creation something to look at. Play it and see for yourself.

Dismemberment (hub3dm1)
The Hubster has released a fine new tourney map. Designed for duel play in the Challenge Promode mod, the map also plays fine 1v1 with normal Quake III Arena. Although this map's theme was inspired by the Team Arena map "Scornforge", the textures were either designed or modified by the author. At 1.5 MBs, this one's a keeper!

Nureht's Revenge (klznureht)
Killazontherun recently released this fun 3 player DM. With large corridors and hallways, "Nureht's Revenge" features tight architecture, along with great texturing (courtesy of HFX) and sounds. It's not a light weight at just under 3.5 MB's, but this medium sized brick/base textured map is well worth having.

Version 666 (map-charon3dm666)
This latest offering from Charon is a tight, fast DM oozing with ambiance. I couldn't help looking over my shoulder a fair bit while running around this one. Custom textures abound, including several pentagrams and crosses, to further enhance this map's "hellish" theme. At 2.5 MB's, this one's smaller than most of Charon's other works and certainly a worthy addition to anyone's map collection.

Auhsan released this one about a month after "The BackStab". This little/medium sized green gothic map was designed for both tourney and Deathmatch. Great gameplay and atmosphere, along with another of Auhsan's signature teleporter modifications, all combine to make this 2.7 MB package a worthwhile download.

The BackStab (auh3dm2)
Well...not much goin' on in the Q3 mapping community lately, so I thought I'd post what many have considered to be the most popular DM/FFA of all time. Auhsan drew inspiration for this tech-themed map, posted last August, from oldschool Q1 stuff. The BackStab offers excellent gameplay in a unique, vertical setting accented by several unique textures. The modified teleporter is especially interesting. "The BackStab" is under 2 MB's and no map collection is complete without it.

LoneGunman NAL has released both a Q3 and TA version of this Q1 map remake. You can grab the Q3 version from his site.
His careful use of textures, coupled with the dark gothic atmosphere, helps this one look and feel alot like to original. Even the original Q1 teleporters are very well reconstructed. Definitely one of the best conversion maps around.
