Discontent (kamq3dm2)

A tribute to the recently disbanded Fresh Team, "Discontent" was specifically designed for one on one play. The map by Kamarov contains excellent new texture work by Yogi. The music track, which is available from the author's site as a separate download, was scored by Bob0.

Kiss of Death (jaxdm6)

This latest release from Jax_Gator features some cool textures by {D-ca}Ebola. This small DM consists of two large areas connected by a series of passageways on several tiers. I especially liked the "kiss of death" banners hung everywhere ;c). Great marks for detail and playability!

Shakedown (rdogdm2)

This map from Reservoir DoG was designed primarily for 1v1 tourney play and 2v2 team play. Reservoir DoG has even bundled a fun little addon with this map. Integrating several texture sets, "Shakedown" offers an engrossing atmosphere that is highly detailed, while still achieving high marks for playability.

(July 29):The author has re-released the map after fixing some graphical glitches that affect people who use reduced texture detail settings (ie picmip_3 or lower). The updated map is now available from the link below.

Giants Among Us
(bubdm1)

The appropriately named first release from ButterB overwhelmed me with its huge columns and high lofts. I felt very small running around while the wind howled. This FFA provides tons of enjoyment with well placed jump pads and beams for some serious sniper action. A few players are the order here...more than 5 is a crowd. A nice first effort offering great gameplay!

Between the Conduits
(stei8a)

How about a double header from Elmar Steinböck?. This large gothic map features excellent texturing and curve usage. The secret is in balancing detail with playability. Elmar has succeeded in producing a well laid out, highly detailed map that maintains respectable r_speeds throughout.

the lost warriors
(stei6)

Here's a fun little space floater from Elmar Steinböck I found posted at Q3 Center. I'm not a huge fan of space themes, but the architecture and layout on this FFA is just different enough to make it interesting without spoiling the gameplay. The map features several new textures and jumppads and is optimized for between 2-6 players. It's a small download, so why not check it out?

Butchered Creatures
(alkdm13)

This fun little DM from [Kona] was actually released at the beginning of July. Oh well, better late than never. What makes this space floater so interesting is the combination of styles and excellent eye candy, courtesy of the HH3 texture set. Playability is great too, of course. I've added this one to my collection...have you?

Tempered Graveyard
(map-20kdm1)

<|3FG20K> has released a new FFA. "Tempered Graveyard" features a gothic theme, while offering a variety of different looks throughout the map. The layout is interesting-several large open areas interconnected by passageways on several tiers. This map can be enjoyed with a wide variety of player loads and configurations, but the author recommends 4-8 player dm's.

The Birth Machine (bm)

Quint spent a month constructing this 11 MB space floater. Have a look at the list of credits in the map's readme file and you'll see that "The Birth Machine" features a heap of textures, a new skybox and new music. Of course, being so 'texture rich' does tend to affect the map's r_speeds, but if you've got a decent machine and a fast Internet connection, you'll want to check this out.

A fun little DM from Bushboy, the emphasis here is on vertical gameplay. Bushboy has spiced this one up with several custom textures from Evil Lair that help lend "Mental Oasis" a real tech feel.

Are Friends Gothic? (kitdm10)

The latest release from Kit Carson, looks like another winner! "Are Friends Gothic?" is Kit's tribute to the gothic style maps of old, and yes this FFA is chalk full of ambiance. What sets Kit's work apart from most others is the attention to detail. You'll find that and more in this 7 MB monster.

Meatball Grinder (ik3dm2)

Another terrific effort from Fingers, "Meatball Grinder" is loosely based on a Q2 map. Best played with 2 or 3 players, this mettalic DM's a bit curve heavy which can produce some sluggishness, but you'll definitely want to grab this one.
