Air2 (Air2)
"Thruster", has just released a fun little map. "Air2" is a DM that offers good playability, despite a fairly high degree of detail. There are several well connected areas, each featuring its own look. At under 2 MB's this is a worthwhile download.

The Janus Syndrome (arena66)
Anwulf, a member of Team Huh Design Core describes this as a "narrow, elongated map for ffa and team DM". This map really shows an expert's attention to detail and plays extremely well. "The Janus Syndrome" deserves a place on anyone's hdd.

The Fallen Shrine II (tamadm05)

This sweet TA space-themed map by "Kiltron" supports all play modes, including CTF, Oneflag, Harvester and Overload. This is a very fast-paced map with lots of ambiance. If you've got TA, grab this one.

Mice are Blue (map-charon3dm7)
Yet another fine looking release from "Charon", "Mice are Blue" is a small tournament style map done in a blueish tech/base/goth theme. This map is designed for tournament style play between 2 to 4 players. Yet another worthy addition to anyone's map collection!

The Crucified Colony (map-charon3dm5)
You know that when "Charon" releases a new map, it'll be a winner. The inspiration for "The Crucified Colony" came from a wad for Doom 2. This dark gothic/tech level features lots of atmosphere, with lots of purple and some mild oranges and reds. The gameplay is best suited for 2 to 6 players. Go get it!

everybodys darling (ttjq3dm1)
"TTJ", of "Counter-Strike" fame, has just released his first work for Q3. "everybodys darling" is a 600 KB FFA with a simple layout, featuring twisting hallways surrounding a central arena. This arena is where most of the action takes place, with 1 on 1 being the preferred configuration. There's lots of detail packed into this little "darling" and the gameplay's great!

Darkpact duel (q3dpduel)
"Darkpact duel" by [DP] LoJiK is a well designed 1.8 MB FFA. Built around an industrial Quake2 theme, this map's simple but well executed, the layout is fast and easy to learn and the connectivity is good. The game play is good with a well balanced selection of weapons and items. The author himself has said that the goal was to achieve good flow, action and general gameplay...Mission accomplished.

The Rustwerkz (excq3dm18)
This map by Excelsiore is designed to look like an abandoned atmospheric processing plant. The layout consists of several interconnected multi-level atriums, leading to a central area. Good gameplay and lots of atmosphere, too.

Degree of Power (thunda3dm2)
"Thunda" has just released this abandoned base themed DM. This one is a lot of fun to run around in as the high attention to detail really shows through. It works great for free for all and team based deathmatch.

H2SO4 (ktsdm3v2)
This new map by "Krash" features more than 80 custom textures and sounds, along with a completely unique ambience. It functions well as both a FFA, or team deathmatch. Although the fog adds to the visual effect of H2SO4, a no-fog version is available from the author's site for lower-end machines.
Note: a new version has been posted addressing an issue with movement in spectator mode. Please delete the original .pk3 (ktsdm3) before installing v2.

Team Deviant (teamdeviant)

Kiltron originally created "Team Deviant", the official Pitchshifter map, for Q3 and has now posted the Q3:TA version. "Team Deviant" supports CTF, Oneflag, Harvester, Overload and includes an .aas file for bot support.

Pad Shop (padshop)
Padman created this monster for PCGamer Online. This 25 MB map offers up lots of eye candy, along with the usual attention to detail that has become Padman's trademark throughout his full line of "Padmaps". Pad Shop includes new models and several new textures.
This map requires a 64MB video card to run with high quality textures. (With any less RAM, select "normal" quality textures from the options screen, or the map will be a slide show.)

Vertigo (saiko_tourney1)
This tight little tourney map by Sai-KO features an outstanding layout, suitable for intense 1on1 action with good movement and game flow. There is up close, long distance and vertical action across the four main floors. At under 2 MB's, this one's a bargain.

Old Skool (mrhdm5)
Modelled around gothic architecture, including big arched doors, intricate metalwork and an oubliette, "Old Skool" by Mr Herring offers solid gameplay and lots of wide open spaces. As the author would say..."Download it now if you know what's good for you".

Skylancer (skylancer)
Now here's an interesting looking floater...Priv has incorporated a number of custom textures to create this small/fast and highly visual DM/tourney map. The author recommends a minimum Pentium 400 based system to enjoy all this one has to offer.

Burial Grounds (jaxdm4)
This large map by Jax_Gator takes place in a large graveyard and offers tons of open spaces for runnin' around in. Lots of interesting styling, including new models, sounds and a very effective skybox. I especially liked the abundance of interesting textures. This one's large at over 8 MB's, but if you've got a high-speed connection, check this map out.
Suggested minimum requirements: PIII 400 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 16 MB video card

Tones of Twice (reflex12)
This medium/large sized military base styled DM recently released by Mike Steffen features a large outdoor area interconnected by a footbridge. Lots of interesting stuff here, including a large fog and lava filled pit, along with several unique textures. I'd recommend a higher-end system when playing this one as the frame rate does take a bit of a dive in places. This 4.4 MB zip is worth checking out.

Quake3Stuff (quake3stuff)
This "cool" map, originally called "Iced Earth" was released by Senn for a map contest held at Quake3Stuff last September. The custom lighting and textures, including the ice shader, really set this map apart. The slippery ice surface can send you sliding out of control. The zip is just under 4 MB's and definitely worth downloading if you don't already have it.

The Doom That Came To Dunwich (ikzdm1)
An old city block sets the stage for this new 6 MB map from Fingers and Zdim. The architecture and texturing are amazingly good, creating a very rich and believable atmosphere. This map offers a ton of action, both indoors and out and is probably one of the most exciting Q3 maps I've seen in a long time.

House of Shannara (jaxdm3)
"Jax_Gator" released this gothic style DM last November. This map consists of large open areas mostly connected by corridors. Lots of detailing and atmosphere here. At under 2 MB's, a worthwhile addition to your map collection.

the Gardens of Eternity (eternity)
Darth_Blade presents this 9 MB FFA/tourney map, complete with a separate music file that can be downloaded from the author's site. This map is an interesting combination of tech and temple styles. Some of the architectural features include spotlights on the temple pillars, along with very unique looking portals and lifts. A beautiful skybox helps set the mood for this night time adventure.
Note: An updated 4 MB version has been posted. This version was released to correct some missing textures and other bugs that appeared in the original version.

Badlands Palace (blpalace)
Sock has re-released this special version of Twisted Palace of Hate specifically for the Badlands competition. This fairly large, multi-tiered medieval themed map features new graphics, yet retains the feel of some of the older Q3 maps I remember. Good gameplay, too. The zip is 4.7 MB's and well worth it.

Blood Run Tourney (ztn3tourney1)
ztn has re-released this year old map with a number of fixes. They include removing the Quad damage as well as clipping out the ceiling area near the Lightning Gun. This multi-tiered map plays extremely well and offers a refreshingly "classic" look. Definitely worth the download.

Gothic Rage (q3a-qxtourney1)
The latest map by
"Quaker-X" is a great FFA map with a simple gothic style. Offering three floors of action, this map is best played as a 3 or 4 player DM. Great item placement, nicely laid out architecture and rapid-fire gameplay all help make "Gothic Rage"...all the rage!

Ancient Greek Arena (wmgdm1)
This interesting new map by
"ResidentSCUM" is loosely based on the Propylaea, Western entrance to the Acropolis. Ideal for team DM, ffa support is also included. Lots of new textures are featured on this medium sized map and the gameplay flows smoothly as well. At less than 4 MB's, "Ancient Greek Arena" is a worthwhile map to check out.
