My Quake 3 on Vista runs almost pitch black.

I have tried different drivers
I have tried r_ignorehwgamma "1"
I have tried adjusting the gamma before entering the game nothing works.
When I try to adjust gamma is only gets darker.

Please help!!! Someone out there must have a fix.
