Yes, I’m still in SG.
Been a little busy with all the Covid fall out, but still alive and kicking.

Some Quake (1) mapping questions
Hi, I’m considering jumping into the Quake mapping scene. I have TrenchBroom installed, and Quakespasm set up. I wondered if some of you guys could answer some very basic questions. Does Q use caulk, or does the compiler remove unseen faces? Are there detail and structural brushes? How does vis work...

Thanks guys. I’ll get to finishing off the clipping issues when I get a little bit of spare time.

CTF Map ‘Emerald Hill’
Very loosely based on a place near to me. Inspired by the Peranakan architecture that surrounds me everyday. I know there are some tight areas, but it’s too late to do anything about that now. That said, there are two or three really good speed run tricks because of the geometry. This really is a re...

Re: Screenshots
Little bit of an update. Both sides of the map are done, I’m happy with the middle ground now. My biggest issues have been compiling a bot navigation file. I need to build a proper bot only map to compile a .aas I made a quick version to test. -fixaas is weird. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it ...

Tool for mirroring and rotating selections for CTF levels
I remember someone made a tool that could mirror and rotate maps to help create CTF levels. Radiant borks textures even with texture lock on, and obviously doesn’t handle models well. I could do manual rotations for everything and realign all the textures. But I was wondering if anyone remembered wh...

Re: GtkRadiant 1.6.6
Hi. I double checked I was on the right version. 1.5 will not allow the creation of bad brushes. There is no need to run brush cleanup. It’s automatic. 1.5 had a gizmo for rotating models on all axis. The edge manipulation on brushes works, but you can’t group select and move multiple edge points li...

Re: GtkRadiant 1.6.6
Hey Obs, Been using this build for awhile, I’d love to do some bug reporting on feature suggestions. The GTK 1.5 model rotation was awesome. The 1.5 brush clean up was awesome. 1.6 vertex handling is so much better, but not being able to select multiple points in edge manipulation is a pain. The 1.5...

Re: Screenshots
My lunchtime doodling continues. The Old China Town map is evolving into a CTF level. I’ve just about got the base area finished now. Still a little bit of tweaking to the terrain mesh is needed, to allow room for a jump pad at each end of the raised area. It’s a bit tight atm. [lvlshot]https://www....

Re: -skyfix vs culling
I didn’t say you shouldn’t use area portals, I just asked why. It struck me that it wouldn’t necessarily be a first call to controlling vis in Q3A. Doors a a bit more SP. Also areaportaled doors have a nasty bug in spectator mode, certainly in VQ3. Again, no biggy if someone wants doors in their map...

Ah, good point. The sky and lightning are still very temporary. I’ll certainly remember that later on. Spent my lunchtime making some Chinese lanterns to fill up the overhead space.

Re: Screenshots
Been doodling at lunchtimes again. Making some new textures and putting together some ideas. The sky and the floor tiles are Hipshot’s from Hipshot_m13, the rest of the stuff I’ve made from scratch for the project.

Two new maps for Q3
Hi guys, hope everyone is well. I’ve had a bit of free time to get back into Level Design and for some reason I felt motivated to make some stuff again. I’ve got two maps to release. The first one I was in the middle of working on when my Hard Drive failed. Originally I had in mind a third map using...

Re: Quake related data recovery issues.
Thanks for the advice. It’s been a rough year, and the worst possible time of year. If it’s not possible to recover my data myself, I’ll wait until the new year and engage a professional to do it for me.

Re: Quake related data recovery issues.
Thanks for replying. By reader I meant the read/write head. Sorry, I’m not a hardware person. I’ve watched a lot of videos about opening the drive and resetting a stuck head, but as a very non expert that seems like a recipe for disaster. The drive does show up, but apparently can’t be read. I’ll tr...

Quake related data recovery issues.
Hi. Am hoping someone can help me out. Not been around for a while because real life has been a bit random. To top off a pretty shit year, my hard drive just died. Apparently the reader is dead. Of course, I’m not backed up, coz stupid. I’ve got 10 years of all my Quake stuff on that drive. Data rec...
