I'm a bit at a loss, everything looks alright. Do you run the Q3 binary as user corsair or is it per chance installed as a suid binary? Yes, I run quake3 as corsair. The binary was installed with the official installer from id's ftp. What confuses me most is that demos ARE shown in basq3 and cpma.....

Depends. Where exactly did you install defrag and what output does `ls -lR` in that directory produce? Defrag under Linux, demos do not show in menu?
I set up Q3A for my Linux box, and everything seems to work fine. But when I start defrag mod, I find that no demos is shown in the demo menu, only empty folder (which I created in the folder tree), even for those who I've just recorded! While baseq3 and CPMA are all right. What's wrong with my defr...
