Re: Anything to do the legwork for a single-player mod?

The visuals are actually going to look more like Quake 1 or maybe a PS1 or N64 game; what interested me about Quake 3 was the much-improved netcode and overall increase of options for things I can do from a technical side. Didn't know the remaster's code was available; I suppose they improved the ne...

Re: Anything to do the legwork for a single-player mod?

Cool! I searched around and found this video of something someone made with the toolset. I'm noticing a lot of things here; scripted events, cutscenes, and carrying items... Definitely looks pretty sweet! That said, the enemies still behave like Quake 3 bots; I'm not sure if this is what I want for ...

Anything to do the legwork for a single-player mod?

I was thinking about making a single-player game with Quake 3. I'm wondering if there are any tools/assets/etc available to lay the groundwork for such a project. Most importantly, has anyone created any enemy AI code that other people can use in another project? Perhaps has anyone tried to port ove...

Can I have a game start without the players being ready?

So in a couple weeks I'm going to be setting up some games for folks to play at a gaming convention. This year I want to include Quake 3 in the mix, but I'm not as familiar with Quake 3 as I could be. First of all I want to clarify the basic set up. This is going to be at a convention, and I'm going...

Re: What's the difference between Quake 3 maps and Quake 2 maps?

I didn't know that, but would have guessed something to that effect. But what difference does version 46 have from what was used for Quake 2 and/or all the other Quake 2 engine games, like Sin? Does the new version carry any new features? What kind of things can Quake 3 IBSP do that Quake 2 could not?

What's the difference between Quake 3 maps and Quake 2 maps?

I was just curious, really. But from a technical perspective, what is the difference between a map for Quake 3 and a map for Quake 2? More in terms of the engines rather than the games themselves per se. What kind of restrictions does one face that the other doesn't? What requirements does one have ...

How do I set up a map cycle?

I've never really played Quake 3 over a LAN before. But I was toying with it today, and to my disappointment, I found that when a match ended, the game just played the same match again. Is there a way to set up the game to use a map cycle, so it changes to a new map after each match? (BTW I'm just u...

MUCH better!
The guns still seem slightly cut off, but not as bad as it was before.

Thank you very much!

Re: Best options for widescreen gaming?

Yeah, and the pics you are showing of how your game looks are showing EXACTLY the same issues I was talking about. Here, I made some comparison shots to make it easier. http://i.imgur.com/g8E6ein.png Notice how you see significantly less of the gun. You only have this tiny piece of it sticking up, l...

Original 4:3 http://i.imgur.com/fIF5j2h.jpg Running at a 16:9 resolution (After some tweaking and comparing the screenshot above, I managed to find the FOV of 110 matches the same view of the original 4:3 image without cropping the top and bottom off.) http://i.imgur.com/WyMzTtY.jpg In the original ...

Re: Best options for widescreen gaming?

My problem wasn't getting it to actually "draw" in widescreen, but these other problems that popped up once it was rendering widescreen. The weapons models are cut off, the HUD is stretched, and I really don't know what the proper FOV should be. Also the cutscenes. Has someone made a sourc...

Best options for widescreen gaming?

So I'm wondering what the best options are for playing Q3 with a widescreen monitor. I found a post int he Steam community where someone mentioned how you can easily edit your config file to give you a custom resolution. They also mentioned how to adjust the FOV to get it to look right. Their sugges...

Re: Is this how the game is supposed to look?

So just to update the situation, in case someone cares or searches for information on this same situation: I just bought Quake 3 on GOG, the full version, and this one plays properly and smoothly. The demo version on Steam still plays oddly jittery, I don't know why, but the full version on GOG work...

Re: Is this how the game is supposed to look?

Try setting the game's network connection setting to LAN/Cable/xDSL. That might work. Nope; it was already set to that. And it didn't make a difference when I tried setting it to 28.8 just to try it. Maybe this is because I am just running a demo? I'm going to buy the full version but I'm not in a ...

Re: Is this how the game is supposed to look?

No response? So, I suppose this is what the game actually is supposed to be doing. I would like to ask then why is this happening? I love studying how these older games work; I can never get enough of that. Technologically it doesn't *have* to do this, as even Quake 2 moves characters much smoother,...

Is this how the game is supposed to look?

So, I haven't played Quake 3 in at least 12 years. I thought about getting into it, and so I downloaded the demo that is available on Steam and played some single player. One of the things I noticed is that all of the bots running around in the map all looked... choppy. EDIT: To clarify, if they wer...
