Lvlworld's Redux Jam Announcement
For those who don’t know, lvlworld is the largest database of custom Quake 3 Arena maps on the internet. It has 2500+ unique releases and for this jam, Tig has compiled a list of older maps that would benefit from a refresh. The goal is to keep the raw layout ...

Re: Trying to Edit some Quake 3 characters; remove certain skins
I could delete the actual .skin and .tga files, but isn't there some data that tells the game what skins to use? You have it correct, just delete the .skin file of whatever skin you don't want. That's how the game knows what to load. You don't need to remove the .tga files. Example, removing the sk...

Rebooting Geocomp?
... as well (if we go through with it). I want to do a Geocomp event this summer, but most of all, I want it to succeed. Getting mappers to make Quake 3/Quake Live maps has turned out to be quite the challenge. Now, running a poll like this is no guarantee. I mean, life can change pretty quickly; ...

Trying to Edit some Quake 3 characters; remove certain skins
I downloaded some new character models and skins for Quake 3. There are a couple packages I installed that have some characters that I like, and some that I want to remove. Going inside the .pk3 file, I can easily find the .bot file and remove the ...

Oh, that looks very nice for a quake 1 level. I thought it was a q3 level at first, like "this is a very unique look" haha.

... until recently. Not that recent, for several reasons, but here we are. For over a decade, it's been a dream of mine to play other games with quake 3's physics - strafe jumping, rocket jumps, overbounces, etc. I tried a few times, with Skyrim and Mirror's Edge and some other games, but they ...

Re: [Quake 1] [BETA1] Monastery Gardens
Thanks
Majestic Maze was the primary inspiration for my map. I still replay Alice every couple of years and can't wait to finally reach that part every time.
I almost became a gardener and would probably have gone for it if the game artist thing hadn't worked out at the time

Re: [Quake 1] [BETA1] Monastery Gardens
Wow, really nice map!
It has a lot of "Majestic Maze" vibes from "American McGee's Alice" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st_trOJBAJk
According to the sheer amount of trees, conifers and hedges in your map, you should consider renaming yourself to "DaGardener"

[Quake 1] [BETA1] Monastery Gardens
Monastery Gardens is my very first Quake 1 map. Except for playing around with the Half-Life 2 editor in the late 2000's, I've never created an actual single player map for anything so far. I really wanted to change that, and this is my attempt ...

The original ending of **Sunday July 13th** will now be** Sunday Augustus 3rd**. This will give everyone an additional 3 weeks. As usual, playtesting will start after that deadline (but feel free to start as soon as you're ready). There won't be any additional extensions after this one.

Re: My experience with Q3 (about 2 weeks)
If you want to create your own game, Quake 3 is a pretty poor place to start for various reasons. First of all, the game is over 25 years old. You won't find much active help because most of the community has moved on. Compare that to engines ...

Re: My experience with Q3 (about 2 weeks)
I know I'm going to run into trouble and ask too many questions for my liking if I keep using Quake 3. The fun part of game creation for me was downloading something and using the help that came with it, on my own. I could use SDL2 and Godot much more easily with the examples ...

My experience with Q3 (about 2 weeks)
... which meant I finished the work. This time around I don't have a teacher. When I questioned AI about why SDL2 was easier to code for, it said Quake 3 was already written. It's good code that works very well, but only if you're familiar with the design. My SDL games started with a blank file. ...
