Compliance is mandatory. I'm leaning towards an LCD set, but this DLP seems a good deal. Thoughts?

Samsung makes some dlp's with LED lights which are wayyyy better than the single bulb. I would try and find one of those, the picture is perfect.

Contrast Ratio is pretty low. You might want to see if there is a web site that lists it response time.

If it's the one I saw a couple days ago, it looks pretty damn good. Just trying to figure out how to spend my bonus.

Damn. 50 inches for $900?

It's only marked down from $1000 -- are good DLPs really that cheap compared to LCDs?

Is an LCDs picture that much better?

I'm kicking myself for buying a big flatscreen back in August. How was I supposed to know the economy was gonna go to shit and prices would plummet?

They aren't that much cheaper right now, TBH.

That $1100 46-incher at newegg must be some kind of fluke, or damaged or something. Or maybe it uses one of the 'bad' A panels.

But I haven't found any others close to that price that are comparable.

If I could find one in a store for that, I'd be buying it today.

That contrast ratio is horrid.

Law of nature, very soon after you buy something it goes on sale.

Get a Sony Bravia W series. They're rocking this year and winning awards all over the place.

I got myself a Sony KDL 40W4000 (40 inch) for 900 bucks.

Picked up a similar model(46" 530 series Samsung) at best buy last night. CoD:WaW looks fucking incredible on it.

LOL @ Sony Bravia TVs. Average in every department.

Samsung are the current kings of TVs. I would also say that LG do some good screens as well but the Samsung LE46A558 is a nice TV for the money. Look for it...get it...enjoy it

If you buy DLP, you are a fucking moron.

Latest Sony’s (over priced, best style), s9 Samsung (best image, poor sound) or Pioneer LCD’s (best overall) are the best as it stands.

Agreed with Doombrain. You're not getting a deal because you'd be buying a DLP set.

You want a Samsung. Best bang for your buck. The sound issue DB mentions wouldn't even matter because, hopefully, you'd be running surround sound through a receiver any way.

Not too keen on Samsung. Picture quality has been less than perfect on all I have seen so far.

The best HD TV I have seen? The Panasonic Viera Plasma. Amazing picture.

I am aware of the concept of adjusting TV sets (not that I really understand your point. Are you suggesting I have never adjusted a TV?) In the past 2 years I have owned 2 Samsungs, 2 Sonys and now have a Panasonic Viera.

The picture quality on the Viera is waaaaay superior. It was Which Magazine's top TV for a reason.

So, on what "facts" is your opinion based? Hear-say repetitive gossipy gobble or extensive testing and reviewing different models of different brands? A small search on the Bravia W series will show you they're in the top league of LCD TVs, with Samsung a small step behind.

Now I've got the Sony 40W4000 at home for 5 days I can say the picture quality is awesome without any settings adjustment. The sound is 88% better than Samsungs marginal LCD speakers in the store (LE40a656 model). It plays well with my PS3 and cinema system, etc.

one thing one should keep in mind while reading this thread is that people discuss about apple and oranges.. the sony w series as the samsung A6 series are entry models, neither of them anywhere high end or top notch.. but for most people more than enough tv.

sure the kuro plasma is better, the new high end vieras plasnas too as are the LED backlit lcs sony and samsung tvs.. but they all play in a different league and cost 2-3x times the money a sony W or samsung A6 series cost.

this is not a thread about whats the best tv, there is none, even the high end models have their problems in one area or the other.

if someone is satisfied with his choice , let him be.
