I'm hoping it's just a plot trick. Maybe he fakes his own death to go off and fight the Reapers. Maybe Cerberus is up to something again. Or maybe the Reapers indoctrinated him and you'll spend ME2 playing a whole new character much like KOTOR 2's Exile :(

Most likely faking death to infiltrate Cerberus. Some Bioware employee alluded to ME2 being having Cerberus as main antagonists. Also, the teaser site is Cerberus themed.

How long is the first one? I picked it up for $7 a few weeks ago.

Long enough for me to get bored of it without completing it.

How long? Very LONG. Took me best part of 40+ hours to do, good bargain for $7 chap.

Give it chance though. My biggest mistake was playing it for 20mins and not getting into it, only to stick it on the shelf for another year... It does take time, and the story wont pick up until after you leave the first planet (which takes an hour or so).

I'm reading ME: Ascension right now. Takes place right after Sovereign's defeat and goes into a lot of detail about Cerberus and biotics.

I'm off the first planet and fighting the robot species, whatever they are called. I've driven the 6 wheeled vehicle and killed the huge plant.

Thing is, the main quest is not 40+ hours, that's only if you're a completionist anal obsessive who is compelled to do all the sidequests and find all the planets and artifacts and crap.

That's pretty boring though, so if you stick to the main quest, do the main sidequests (Luna, your origin one etc.) and go about exploring maybe 10-15 extra planets, the whole game is around 20 hours, which I found was just about perfect.

Hell yes. One of my favs as well.

Anything that portrays what life could be like in other galaxies, or in the distant future of this galaxy, interests me immensely.

I suspect it could already be happening in our galaxy without us knowing of it...

I do agree that it does get a bit samey. Once you have been to one none story planet, you have pretty much been to them all.

But the story is totally first class entertainment, and I was really happy when my guy got the girl, and really sad when my friend died (but those were MY choices I had to make). Saying that sounds daft, but to have a game make you feel that way is a damn good thing.

I tried to play ME but it crashed ALLTHEFUCKINGTIME. So I chucked it under my bed...and then stumbled on the 1,000+ page thread at the official site on how the newer (at the time) nvidia drivers made the game unplayable. I'll go back and see if any of the newer drivers play nice with the game now.

Just finished it tonight. That ending was awesome. 1st 10% or so of the game was a bit boring. Last 10% was awesome. Middle was pretty good.

They don't, I'm about to boot into XP and install an older set of drivers.

It worked perfectly for me, first with the 8800GT and now a GTX 260. I've also played it with a wide variety of drivers since the game was released.
