I don't know about being the absolute greatest, but Johnny Depp is really good and deserves a nod. Only because he does so many different characters and can be totally different from one film to the other, while most actors tend to have one character that they can play, which is themselves...

Michael Cera, the guy just plays so many different roles, such a diverse and talented actor. Adam Sandler too.

Depp's in the running, but guys like Deniro and Washington simply play the same character again and again. They're like talented versions of Steven Segal, you enjoy their films, and they're very good at what they do, they just have no range.

Robert Duvall, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Caine, those guys are all fantastically talented and can play a broad range of characters. I think I'd pick Duvall.

De Niro does not play the same character again and again...this has to be the dumbest statement I've heard in a while.
Watch him as Rupert Pipkin in The King of Comedy and then compare that to Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver...or Jack Byrnes in the Focker movies or Jake La Motta in Raging Bull or the Monster in Frankenstein...I could go on...but the point is they are Totally different roles that are acted out completely differently.

De Niro is an incredible actor and I'm suprised that more of you don't agree.

Shame that people associate him with his Gangster Roles.

Brad Pitt is massively underrated as an actor.

I agree that De Niro always plays the same roles. He might have range, but he always plays a character who is both feared and respected. Rupert Pupkin excluded.
