Is this safe? Do you do it regularly? I did some reading into this and found that it's possible to get banned, i.e. if your IP changes too drastically [from EU to US and then back within a few minutes].

I've only done it once and there was no issues. I know a few people who do it with all their purchases and they have never had any repercussions from steam. Note that using a vpn to purchase games is another matter entirely and you will get your account suspended for that.

It's slightly disappointing id Software are still stuck in 1993 when it comes to gameplay, but at the same time I wasn't expecting anything else. So to be honest, I'm not sure if I'll dislike the game as much as the reviewer. And to be honest, the review reads a lot like a rant than an actual review.

To offer some contrast:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... age-review

Eurogamer give it an 8/10. Their conclusion:
Quote:
Judged on game design and content, then, it's slightly anachronistic, but as a toy box full of things you can only do in games, Rage is warm-hearted and refreshing. It's not going to change the world, but it does serve as a timely reminder of that other thing id Software games always did besides smashing through some new technological barrier. They made shooting things fun, and it's nice to have that back.

And I think that's probably the right way to approach this game.

edit:
all the review scores on metacritic:

9.5 GamingTrend
9.5 TeamXbox
9.1 3DJuegos
9.0 Meristation
9.0 Machinima
9.0 GameTrailers
9.0 AusGamers
9.0 IncGamers
8.9 Computer and Video Games
8.5 IGN
8.0 GamePro
8.0 GameSpot
8.0 Gamereactor
8.0 Gameblog.fr
8.0 Eurogamer
8.0 Eurogamer Italy
8.0 Guardian
8.0 Official Xbox Magazine UK
7.5 Game Revolution
7.5 1UP
7.5 Offical Xbox Magazine
7.0 Telegraph
7.0 Destructoid
6.5 Strategy Informer
6.0 Joystiq
5.8 Gaming Age

That averages up to 8.05
Not too bad I guess.

Oh and while it's unlocking and downloading the updates, i'm reading on the net about how it's a crappy port, with no graphic adjustments of any kind bar the resolution, no fov adjustment (and default of 60 AGAIN ffs), no vsync, mouse accel... oh god, here we go again.

Not what you expect from an id game.

It's iD's new anti-piracy strategy; making games that aren't worth pirating.

Just curious: why is adjusting your FOV so important? I don't think I've ever done this in any game other than Quake 3 nor have I felt the need to do so. And I did play Q3 at the default 90 fov for a very long time.

Been reading a lot and apparently, the PC version is a buggy consolified horror of a game.
I just cancelled my preorder of the Anarchy edition. Let's see some patches first before I spent money on this.

This video explains it all perfectly. Ironic that it's for developers, when not a single one of them implements it properly for the PC.

And I can confirm the default fov is the worst in any PC video game i've ever played. That includes BF:BC2 too. Luckily, easy to adjust

8 is a good average score; I wll check Joystiqs review as I always find them to be fair, balanced and 9 times out of 10, correct.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/04/rage-review/

Quote:
There's just not a lot of "there" there - my first playthrough, which included every side-mission and several job board assignments, took me 9 hours and 15 minutes. My second, where I completed every side-mission, every job board assignment, every courier mission, and most of the races, took eight hours and 50 minutes. RAGE ends so abruptly that I didn't realize it was over until the final cutscene began. I was left wondering what had happened

Oh :(

Fixed all the silly stuff like mouse accel, fov, vsync etc... the beauty of having a working console.

However, because there's no way to adjust individual graphic settings at the moment, it's hard to know what the hell RAGE has set your graphic options at. I've got pretty much the best GPU/CPU/RAM available, but the textures in this game look absolutely hideous for me. It's a bleached out, blurry mess. I noticed that my GPU is hardly being taxed too, since my GTX580 usually runs at around 85C when running intensive games. With RAGE, it never goes higher than 65C.

Gameplay is dull as fuck so far, with constant ridiculous fetch quests and forgettable dialogue, but the shooting is decent. I guess it's exactly what I expected it to be. Still, i'm getting increasingly sick of pre-ordering games and being nothing more than a glorified BETA tester, constantly having to do workarounds just to get a game running right.

Ah yes, very nice video. I understand what the problem is. Never really experienced it myself, but I guess this mostly started occurring as XBox 360/PS3 became primary development platforms instead of PC, by which time my gaming had already mostly switched over to XBox 360.

The way he can draw with the tablet looks really neat as well.

Brisk, looks like you are getting that polygon edge bug as well. Enable AA to remove it for some reason until its fixed... But yeah, thats about the best it gets.

I'm running 8x AA. I was actually considering lowering it, since I was under the impression that RAGE auto-configures to keep the game running at a constant 60FPS, sacrificing quality to maintain it... so maybe that would actually improve the quality of the visuals heh. No draw.

Honestly, it looks absolutely fugly at the moment. I expected the gameplay to be a bit shit, but you don't expect an id game/new engine to look like a PS2 game... and trust me, although that screenshot I posted was obviously a bit extreme, the actual game doesn't look much better. What the hell went wrong.

This is why I don't PC game anymore. I like to pop the disc in and play without having to dick around in config files and registry entries.
