tnf guru Joined: 13 Mar 2001 Posts: 18068	Posted: 09-19-2011 07:10 PM                  A local Gamestop store manager contacted my business about shooting pictures of people who show up at their midnight release tonight because they got one of (according to their manager) a very limited number of life size replicas of the Lancer that people get to have their pic taken with. I expect a lot of greasy hair.

I'm debating buying this. I loved the first two, but this third is just hard for me to get excited for. Plus we've got Rage coming up in a couple weeks. And I'm not big on playing two games at once. I'm too loyal. What to do, what to do...

o'dium Eh? Joined: 25 Mar 2001 Posts: 32049	Posted: 09-21-2011 08:44 AM                    Up to about half way into Act 5 ATM, haven't had much chance to play it as I've been to Munich. But so far, so good. Graphics wise, its top banana, really does look the best title on the 360. They seriously upgraded the visuals. But story and gameplay have all been fine tuned to the nth degree. It feels more like Gears 1, but plays so nice, and the story is just superb. Leaps and bounds better than the first. Theres a few plot twists so far, and something happened in the previous act I did NOT expect to happen... Poor bugger So far, a solid title. The online stuff I haven't dived into, but four player coop, horde, MP modes and the most robust stats system I've ever seen in a game make it a sure winner.

The ending for once left me feeling pretty full, and I'm so happy that that one guy didn't do that thing we all thought he would (if you play all the way, you'll know). Also lol at Anya and Marcus, I would like to see how that would be possible, hes like 10x as big...

But been busy with Dead Island coop over the weekend, plus with Uncharted 3 and Rage out this Friday, its gonna be a total cluster fuck of a weekend for "having a life". EDIT: Oh cock, not this Friday, next weekend... Thats ok, means I can eat this week then, joy.

Lighting setup was an Alienbee with a beauty dish to my right, about 6 feet form subject and about 8 feet high. I love the light from a beauty dish - I was going to use my octabox but I decided the dish would give me a little more dramatic light. For the rim lighting I had planned on using two speedlites (I just buy old Nikon Sb-28s or even old SB-26's on eBay) but the area we were shooting didn't give me room for the two, so I had to go with just one behind the subject at about a 45 degree angle and about 6 feet behind. I went on that side to provide a litttle rim lighting for the gun. Set it manually to 1/8. If you want any help getting into lighting just let me know and I can send you a list of what you need to get started or how to get a multi light setup working.

I was pressured by a couple friends, and I felt like since I played the first two, I was obligated to play the third. It's a bit meh, tbh. It's really just more of the same. But how could I have expected anything more? It feels like Gears 2, which felt like Gears 1. I'll probably keep playing it for a few more days, but once Rage is released next week, I really can't see myself coming back to this...

Gears is a little meh so far, but Horde and Beast will keep my attention no doubt
