SV650s aren't lookers, but they also aren't terrible to learn on. However, there are even shittier bikes if you just want to pick up something to learn on (which you should). If I could redo learning how to ride, I'd of bought some used $1,000 Honda cruiser or an old model Ninja 250 to mob out on for the first 6 months.

Buying a brand new bike for your first bike is an all around terrible idea, unless you're just extremely aware and calm. I had 3 or so small wrecks my first year of riding - a lowside from being a newb in a turn ("gravel from the driveway"), a panic brake lockup to lowside, and a highside from downshifting too fast and locking it up.

Most states in America have different endorsements for different classes of motorcycles, but most implicitly let you ride smaller displacements if you have an endorsement for a higher.

Yeah, you don't 'regret' buying a small bike 5 months down the line, you sell it and buy a new bike, that's the point.

Right. As long as you're buying it used on cragislist or something, you're not even going to lose money (maybe a hundred or two in tax and registration).

If you're a happy owner, why not post a pic of your bike, instead of a stock photo?

Already put 300km's on the odometer. Shoulder hurts like a bitch. :/

Fun bike though but doesn't feel overwhelming.

I actually find it pretty manageable but quick enough. I think for a first bike this was the right choice. I'll probably upgrade in a few years.

Generally people recommend buying used so you don't take a financial hit on it, especially if you ding it up a bit learning. But yeah, that's a good learner bike for sure.

That's because you've been riding it for 5 minutes. In a couple of months you'll start to realise how gutless it is.

No they don't. You'd actually have to own one for starters. The first one you posted is similar in specs to mine, but a little under. Priced about the same and mine looks better. You lose on all counts.
