He gave that cube a good looking over before he started whereas I thought they were handed a cube by someone who scrambled it before the record attempts.

I have heard some even lube their cubes :D before attempting the record.

It is scrambled by someone else but they can study the cube before actually solving it. There are special speed-cubing Rubik's cubes. The blocks are really loose and not comfortable to work with if you're an average Joe solver.

I can solve a regular 3x3x3 one in like 90 seconds :D

Nice. I recall when they first came out and I had to have one :smirk:
It took me months to solve and when I did I took a (film) photo of the solved cube in front of a mirror.

I say film photo because it was long, long ago, early 1980's I am near sure.
