Starting off outside of Iquitos, traveling down the Amazon River to a lodge in the jungle. Staying a few nights, exploring the area. Then down to Cusco, where we'll hike/camp the Inca Trail for 4 days over the Andes mountains, ending up at Machu Picchu. From there we'll probably head over to Lima for a couple days.

Anyone ever been in this area? I'm looking for a couple more activities/cities to visit. Pretty excited. I've wanted to see the Amazon ever since I was a kid...

frankly, Amazon + Andes + Macchu Picchu should be more than enough to keep you occupied unless you have the attention span of a potato

Hmm, maybe you're right. I just felt like I should see some more cities, since I'm going to be spending most of my time in the jungle and on the trail. Lima should be fun though...

My parents went about 7 years ago and loved it. They seem to like that part of the world, they moved to Ecuador 1.5 years ago.

Going by the photos I saw and from what they said, you'll have a great time.

Come to think of it, I have a buddy who lives in Peru. I could probably link you up with an ayahuasca experience if you're interested...

We were actually planning on going to Ecuador and the Galapagos islands, but decided to head further south and check out the ruins. Maybe next year we can hit up the islands...

I'd probably take you up on that if I wasn't going with my wife. I doubt she wants to take care of me while I vomit and shit all over myself...

A colleague of mine went there last year. He said the most amusing thing were the fat American smokers who got nauseous at 4km height in the mountains.

xer0sRe: Topic: Just booked a trip to Peru...

No, I've never been but I am looking forward to your pictures (or it didn't happen) and stories from your travels.

Funny enough, I re did my 'bucket list' just the other day and added the Galapagos islands. Figure I do them on the way to Antarctica via Argentina and the Falkland Islands.

Cheers and good trip xer0s

Heard Peru is cool, but the elevation is brutal on you.

Yeah, they recommend arriving in Cusco at least a couple days early to adjust for the altitude before the hike...

Have fun on your trip. Also, don't get your wife pregnant.

Yeah, it's the Manta 36. I also have the Farpoint 40, but it's not a hydration pack. Plus, more room = more junk, and I need to stay as light as possible...

Hey no problems. When your underpants get dirty, just turn 'em inside-out. And then backwards after that, and inside out again. 4 times the longevity
