Cheers, I was thinking about the Van Gogh and maybe a anal tour. I arrive early in the morning and leave fairly early in the evening so I'll probably go around taking photos most of the time. Any restaurants or cafes you'd recommend with a nice view?

I'll let you know when I plan a proper visit with the missus :D

Fixed.

Also watch out for crime from the usual suspects (trying not to sound like a racist) but someone I was with got his phone plucked from his hand by some lovely chap on a bike last year.

Sounds shitty man. My last kid was born through emergency c-section in October last year. The hospital staff guided me through the whole process with lots of care and attention to my (mental) well being. I was relatively relaxed but they wanted to make sure I wasn't detached from reality or something because everything happened really, really quickly.

Many friends i have in Europe tell me the same.

I love the NHS, the thought of having to pay for emergency care is terrifying to most brits (and i have private care). I've had to take our youngest in because if a fit and they were stellar then, 10/10 care. It's just spoilt by a few bell ends because they are at odds with different levels of professionals within the NHS. Don't get me started on the so called none doctor specialists with a years training thinking they are important.

I saw Amsterdam, it's cool but the rest of the country might be a steaming pile of shit regardless of what I know about its people and culture.

Better? :p

First off, congrats, brother, and I totally agree with Don--you're going to be a rockstar dad.
Second, on point with the post, Mazda you're going to love this place. Ryoki do you think it would be possible for Mazda to squeeze in a quick Leidseplein (by far the coolest thing I visited in AMS, thanks to your and MKJ's amazing mad local guide skillz) tour on that short of a layover? I know Schipol (sp?) to the canal area is fairly quick.. third, if you like classic 1400's architecture, black licorice and coffee or sex shops, the Old Kirk side is unbelievable. If you're a foodie, though--I'd recommend the Binnenstad area

Ryoki wrote:
@ Gramps, :olo: what? I suspect this is a cultural difference, not getting married and having kids is very normal here. See Eraser's post for the rationale.
@ Doombrain, MKJ is correct but i'm intruiged, what do you mean?
@ Memph, not sure if that's a genuine question and if this is an answer to it... but gender wise he can do whatever he wants, if he turns out to be a flaming queer later on that's totally fine by me of course - i'll be fucking proud of him no matter what
@ rest thanks again, jesus this is quite the experience. All i can say at this stage is that all the cliches are true.

Holy shit it's underpants :clownboat:

Is Leidseplein more of a nightlife place? We could go check it out on the night of the 30th, fairly close walk to our hotel. For our day trip on the 12th we're gonna do a walking tour and a bike tour. My girlfriend hasn't been there yet so she wants to explore as much as possible. Really looking forward to biking around the city, will be a nice change from the retarded suicide streets of Toronto :dork:

Committed enough for kids but not marriage.

Sounds like a solid foundation to begin raising a child.

Congrats...
