From the link...

Quote:
When Falcon Heavy lifts off, it will be the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two, with the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (141,000 lb)--a mass greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel.

Amazing lift capabilities :paranoid:

That was so cool to watch. When the rocket separates and the Tesla car came into view with earth in the background

Musk is a fucking badass...

Yeah, but tests like this are necessary to prepare for more precious cargo (humans)...

It's also not staying in Earth orbit where it would be a problem.

And it’s also not going to Mars, which has been widely publicized...

Yeah, I thought I had read that it was planned to crash into Mars, but I guess it's just gonna orbit the solar system for the next billion years. I wonder what the aliens will think when they find it. :smirk:

It's going to pass by Mars and stay in an elliptical orbit around the Sun

Lol thanks.

My point is he could have put something useful up there. There's plenty of companies looking to get things in space. I think it's a case of 'got nothing good to say, don't say anything'.

I saw the pods landed almost at the same time but can't find anything on the main engine ?

Musk gave the rocket a 50/50 chance of exploding, that's kind of a big risk to take for a customer.

Pretty much what Transient said, too big of a risk of failure.
Besides, "science" doesn't really work like that. You don't build a rocket and then think about what kind of cargo you can put in there. If you build a satellite of some sort, you'll need a rocket that brings the satellite to a particular orbit required for that satellite. The Falcon Heavy is launched in a path that isn't of use to anyone, so other than the risk being too great to launch your million dollar satellite, there simply aren't any customers. So instead of putting a big block of concrete in there, Musk put his own car in there, which is a brilliant move in terms of marketing for both SpaceX and Tesla.

Well, the original intention was for it to do a burn which would bring it close to Mars. It turns out it had more delta-v left than anticipated so the burn was longer and it pushed the craft on an even wider trajectory, which is what you see here.

So yes, it currently is on the path you see drawn on the image, but it hasn't actually followed that whole line yet

Another view of the landings with sonic booms :)

Looks like dropships for an alien invasion.
