God damn shame but I'm with seremtan on this one... happens so fucking often nowadays that it's pretty much just a given that some nutso will blow away 15 kids at a school every week in USA.

It's not backwards. It's just that everyone considered what keeps them in power. Voting against a gun ban pleases the NRA and in turn the NRA supports you. That's how it works.

Which makes it backwards, it's not confined to gun law.

Does everyone in the US just sit on their couch and watch TV witnessing these mass shootings, go "thoughts and prayers" then just say or think: "it's not the guns, don't regulate the guns, it's the video games, the rap music and the violent TV shows?"

Like a lot of people in here are saying, I think it's become so common place it's just accepted now and people move on, like an unavoidable consequence of living in pure freedom.

So Trump's solution is arming teachers.

How long until one overworked teacher gets frustrated by the class clown and shoots a kid in the face :dork:

How long until a kid just takes a gun from a teacher who improperly stores it and shoots up a class?

A Week if the recent shooting trend is anything to go by.

The NRA have Trump (and the US congress) in their pockets.

This event won't have any bearing on gun laws in the US, and neither will any of the mass school shootings still to come.

So it turns out there was an armed officer stationed at the school. He heard gunshots and did fuckall.
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics ... ce-officer

Quote:
According to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, that’s exactly what happened at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Even with training and a weapon, the officer stalled — and allowed the shooting to continue for about four to six minutes as he stood outside the building. The deputy, Scot Peterson, has since quit.

“Devastated. Sick to my stomach. There are no words. These families lost their children. We lost coaches. I’ve been to the funerals,” Israel said at a press conference on Thursday. Asked what the officer should have done, Israel responded, “Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer.”

This is more than just another horrific detail about the mass shooting that killed 17 people; it also directly contradicts the notion that simply putting a bunch of armed personnel in schools will stop shooters — the “good guy with a gun” theory.

Aye - an armed Deputy. Trained presumably not just to fire his weapon, but also how to use it against someone.. and still he chokes.

So how is arming up teachers going to do anything at all - maybe it's different in the US and all primary/secondary teachers are action heroes? (Do Americans think Kindergarten Cop is a documentary?)
Or maybe "Armed Response" becomes part of the syllabus for teacher training in the US. Jesus.

I'm already horrified at the idea that US schools regularly drill lock-downs and evacuations. We do a fire drill maybe twice a year.

We all realise the USA is gun-crazy, but i'm genuinely incredulous as to how "arming teachers" was a suggestion that wasn't immediately met with ridicule.

Guys, guys, guys. Reason has nothing to do with it. The NRA themselves can come up with 100 arguments on why it would be better to at least have stricter restrictions on gun ownership. It's just that it doesn't fit their agenda.

Absolutely - money/power/influence. I get that - it's just crazy to look over at the US and see the civilian population that are foaming at the mouth in defense of it all just so that they get to keep their own guns and rifles.

I have US friends on facebook who seem to be fine with the idea that an armed teacher could have "taken down" the attacker. ie. shoot and kill him.
We're all desensitized to violence sure, but... the idea that a secondary school teacher would be fine with shooting and KILLING someone - that sort of thing fucks up police officers for crying out loud, and they want Mrs Smith the languages teacher to take on that mental burden? crazy.
