I'm looking forward to The Matrix 4, but it will be hard to live up to the 1st movie, especially after 20 years of hype and nostalgia. :paranoid:

People are hating way too much on The Matrix 2 and 3. They weren't as brilliant as The Matrix (mostly due to people now knowing what tThe Matrix is), but they were fine and enjoyable movies. The biggest problem with part 3 IMO was they focused way too much on Zion and too little on The Matrix itself.

With 2 they tried way too hard with the mind fuck bullshit. It was ok at best. Never really had a desire to watch it a second time. 3 I've seen a couple of times and that was enough. They really weren't all that good. Had nothing to do with how good the first one was.

Searching as you do, I see there is a John Wick: Chapter 5 in pre-production.

I thought so as well. But this video recently changed my mind - I think actually the whole story hocus pocus is alright but the fight scenes are bad:

she's totally on point about why the first movie was so good: tight storytelling and well-structured exposition - also what was lacking from 2 and 3

Many, many re-writes will do that. The first was so tight that the studio didn't really care what was put out as they knew it would make money. Blame the studio, not the writers.
