Fucking trolling :olo: Sorry if I offended.

I trust the ABC website in Australia as I don't frequent CNN/Sky/BBC and yes I see the mention of predictions but don't think it is a bad thing :smirk:

Here is some text on that and the website link.

Quote:
This map shows state by state results in the US presidential election, as projected by ABC election analyst Antony Green.

Some of Antony's calls come earlier than calls from US media and some calls come after, as different media organisations use different data providers. Antony's numbers incorporate a feed from the Associated Press.

Seems to be an american thing Whiskey - the media outlets calling the state outcomes based on the current vote count and the probability of the remaining vote count being skewed Blue or Red.

Trouble is some news sites call them at different times (seems to be some kudos for them being the "first" - who knew that was a thing!)

BBC in particular seems to be leaving predictions aside and just reporting when the States call their results.

I did not expect this after seeing the first results. A win in PA is still possible for Biden...

Still possible? lol, they are only waiting for mail in votes to be counted in blue counties. it's a given win for him.

GA too. The remaining mail-in ballots in those states are projected to be heavily for Biden. The opposite is true in NV; he's leading right now, but the remaining votes may put Drumpf over the top. There's still a path to victory for Drumpf, but he can't lose PA.

The fact that it's this close is fucking appalling.
Only a slight majority is apparently not ok with Trumps bullshit.

My son brought up an interesting point regarding this. We are basing this off of people who voted. The thing is, non-voters are still an extremely large demographic. That means we have good vs evil vs silent. History has proven the silent are complicit with inaction and are a major cause. This is why its important to not argue with Trumpers and speak to non-voters. A democrat and republican aren't flipping sides so the only logical path is to convince the silent to speak with their vote.

Honestly they need to abolish the party system entirely and just have candidates that represent themselves and their plan for the future of the whole. Choosing red or blue just creates fanboys for life.

Isn't that the point of a two-party system? Divide and conquer?

How large is the group of non-voters? And with non-voters, I assume you mean people who can vote but won't?

Been looking for some concrete numbers for 2020 but haven't found anything solid yet. i know that in 2016 non-voters made up approximately 41% of adults who were eligible to vote.

Only 59% showed up to vote? That's pretty shocking.

From another article I was reading while attempting to find solid 2020 numbers, the poor and uneducated are the main demographic of the non-voters.

I feel a national holiday for voting would take care of a lot of this. Think of these blue collar folks whose employers likely won't allow for time off for anything.

Also, when you're that low on the scale it's hard to have faith that one could make a difference. Our system of voter suppression works as we can see.

There are as many Americans with criminal records as there are those with College diplomas. As much as 1 in 4. A large chunk of the U.S. population is ineligible to vote. You can bet that the majority of those ineligible are going to be from minority and low income groups.

Intentional disenfranchisement. The irony is, the same people that go for this are the same ones that also believe that once a person serves their time, they are ready to re-enter society.

This is never true as they carry their mistake the remainder of their lives.

And many of those are for drug related infractions. Drug abuse shouldn't be a criminal issue, it's a health care issue.

Without question. People seek drugs when they don't have access to health care (including mental health care)

Gerrymandering is another way the parties have disenfranchised voters. Both parties do it in order to remain in power at local levels. There needs to be mass redistricting and we need to get rid of the Electoral College.

Furthermore, big pharma pushing opioids has lead to a lot of the U.S. drug problems, people get hooked on legally prescribed drugs turn to an illegal market when their prescriptions get cut off.

In most other countries, opioids are an extremely controlled substance when used in health care. It is not commonly prescribed.

Purdue just settled a huge court case where they had to admit guilt, but nobody's going to jail. They did have to pay some $12 billion, but that's chump change to them.

I thought this article was an interesting read. Here's a quote from the piece titled US election 2020: Donald Trump's speech fact-checked.

Quote:
Trump: "It's amazing how those mail-in ballots are so one-sided too."

President Trump has repeatedly criticised plans to expand postal voting, saying - without real evidence - it was open to "tremendous fraud."

He urged Republican voters to turn up on the day, rather than using mail-in ballots.

There's evidence from the vote count that this is what has happened - Democratic voters favoured voting by post and Republicans voted on the day in person.

The count is not finished but in Pennsylvania, one estimate is that of more than 2.5 million postal votes received, nearly three times as many came from registered Democrats than from Republicans.
