The Interpreter: 7/10

A real mish-mash of good and bad: Horrible, jarring editing; a few big clichés; good, solid performances; some very well-executed "tension scenes" e.g. the bus-bomb; all in all could have been a 9 or a 10 with an editor who wasn't retarded and a bit more revision/tightening in the screenplay stage.

Just finished watching Swimming Pool (2003, British or French movie) on a cable movie channel. It's sort of a mystery, with a really confusing ending. I sort of figured it out, then went to imdb to see what other people thought it all meant. It's pretty interesting and I kinda want to watch it again knowing what I know now.

I'd say it's worth adding on Netflix. If for nothing else, than "Julie's" nude scenes. :p

Seven, 8/10 I think, the sound was so terrible I couldn't hear half the dialogue.

Spartan: 8/10. Intelligent story, and Kilmer nails the stoic hardass bit. 95% of the dialogue is well written and delivered, just a few times where I was like WTF. The DVD is worth owning for Kilmer's commentary track alone...insightful and hilarious. I hope Kilmer takes more roles like this in the future.

Team America - 7/10. Funny, but not a good as South Park. Needed Saddam

House of Flying Daggers - 8/10. Gorgeous to look at, and if you listen to the commentary track, you realise it's not actually as big a load of bollocks as you thought.

The Flaming Lips - Fearless Freaks - 8/10. WOuld have liked more live footage, but it's interesting to watch if only to find out how utterly shit they were before they suddenly became the best band in the world.

I didn't really like House of Flying Faggers. It was all artsy fartsy pancy kung fu shites. Like Hero, but Hero was actually good.

House of Flying Faggers 6/10

I loved both of those, especially the Bamboo forest scene in House and the autumn leaves fighting scene in Hero.

That's stock sound footage you're hearing.

The whizzy door sound from Doom 1 is a favorite :)

best wait for the 2disc version of Sin City though

the first version they'll release is "barebones". the 2disc version has a kabillion hours of extra stuff, including the 3 stories in its entirety. great stuff :icon14:

Can be hard to follow, but a classic in my book nonetheless.

tarkovsky? great movie indeed.

totally ripped off for the game of the same name: the zone, the treasure hidden within, etc

Yea, the movie had no scary monsters or any of that. Just a bit of a chase in the beginning.

I heard that this movie was supposed to be a commentary about the scientists, and such in Russia had lost their faith in their country. Seeing how the movie was a little hard to figure out, have you an opinion on what it was about?
