They're getting big, but they're still very dependent on us for a lot of things, including their economy.
If they weren't pegged to the dollar, the value of their currency would go way up, and they wouldn't be able to export all their products nearly as cheaply as they do. In which case we, their biggest consumer, wouldn't buy nearly as much from them, and they would probably go back into recession.

But right now they're a huge contender, and what worries me the most is all the oil alliances they are making - especially with countries who traditionally supply us almost exclusively, like Venezuela.

@Rook. IMO we'll see China dwarf the US as both an economic and military superpower over the next 50 years. Any dependence they do have isn't going to last for long.

It's funny how they're holding the us dollar by the balls. If the us starts to get cocky, they just have to squeeze a little.

There's also an interesting link in Chinese oil imports and Iran - i recon they import enough oil from there to not stand for a US-Iranian conflict.
