how do I change the direction of the starting point in GTKRadiant?

See the attached image. Select your player start entity and press the 'N' key on your keyboard. You can use the buttons inside the red area to change the direction. The numbers on the buttons refer to the degrees of the angle. You can also add an "angle" key and set its value to anything between 0 and 360.

There are also X/Y/Z rotate and flip buttons at the top left, just below the menus. And arbitrary rotation inside the edit drop down menu. And you can press "R" to rotate it by hand.
