My hard drive died and I lost about 10 years worth of radiant maps I'd worked on (most were just test maps)
I did however lose a couple of finished maps I made, one of which I can't find online anywhere anymore. AADM1. Does anyone still have it? I know some of you have archives of maps, lol.

Argh, that sucks.
Happened to me too one day. I make regular backups of any creative stuff I work on these days, not just maps.

I just back my entire q3 up on dropbox :p I've accidentally deleted massive amounts of files, and I just restore them. It's great.

Dead hard drive CAN be restored. You just need to attach the actual plots to a working read/write head. Be SUPER CAREFUL while handling the plots! Do not leave any fingerprints on them and avoid dropping them on the floor as much as possible. If just one plot gets cracks on it, your data are all trashed...

What’s wrong with the drive? Does it still physically spin up properly? Deleted, formatted or raw partitioned drives can often have data recovered through recovery software.

If physically crashed (damaged platters, drive head, or motors) then it can be recovered professionally but extremely expensive (~$2000 to attempt). Don’t listen to CZghost, this isn’t something you can do yourself. Drive head to platter tolerances are in the microns, opening a drive will instantly guarantee that it will never be recoverable. Drives need to go into a vacuum chamber before disassembly.

Source: work with data management.

Yeah it's toast. Completely dead. No power to the drive at all. It's ok though. Alot of the stuff i lost was crappy skins I made years ago. I'm going to do new stuff with the extra Photoshop knowledge i have now.

Just get a new disk sometimes and stick the other one in a wardrobe, or make a batch file that sends a backup to like google drive every time you start the computer, or something.

I don't think I can lose my q3 things any more, too many backups on old disks.

How old was this drive, and on what computer? I know this is a little late reply.
