Failing that, Kaz, Redfella, rgoer, Kat, ydnar (if he ever comes back - has anyone announced the 'return' of Q3W @ SD?) are all great candidates.

No. Filling in every mod spot with the same old people is getting boring. Time to give new people a turn.

I can see why new mods might be needed sometimes, but I can't see why the old ones must go. They still deserve to be mods even if the forum has been down.

Seriously... a second and third moderator would be a good idea, to ensure that there is always someone around.
