I installed Quake and Q2 on a windows 7 machine. Everytime I get 5 to 10 seconds into the action, the search result box opens up. I've disabled hotkeys and I'm sure it's not the mouse. If I disable search I get another window saying "requested program doesn't have an association, or something to that effect. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

try remapping your controls to sometihng totally differeny. it doesnt really matter what, youll be resetting them back later.
but this way you might be able to rule out clashing keystrokes.

ok...i ruled out clashing keystrokes, i think, but i discovered something interesting. This only happens when i engage a bad guy. In other words, if I run around shooting at inanimate objects, everything is fine. But after a few shots at a moving target, with the left mouse button of course, the stupid search window opens up and by the time I can close the window, I'm dead. Very strange

try downloading and running Quake2Evolved. its a more refined version of Q2 and might be less problematic on new machines.

i'd supply a link but the Team Blur's website appears to be busted. (o'dium plz to fix :!: )

We don't maintain Q2E anymore (but I do need to re-upload the site at some point to reflect that) but some other guys do, you can find links to installers and what not here:
