Amidy, are you on cable or DSL? What kind of modem do you have there?

I'm thinking of upgrading to TekSavvy's DSL 15/10, but apparently Bell has shit infrastructure that only supports one shitty model of modem.

A TP-Link TD-6816 ADSL2+ Modem will work fine with 15/10 on Teksavvy. Just depends on whether your area supports to 10Mb up.

I already have an ADSL2+ modem. 15/10 or above service requires a VDSL2 modem, and the only one supported by Bell's wonky draft DSLAM infrastructure is the Sagemcom 2864, which has a faulty Bell locked firmware that causes constant connection drops. Thanks Bell for once again fucking shit up.

Ultrafast internet speeds that most Canadian city dwellers can only dream of will soon be available to all 8,500 residents in a rural Alberta community for as little as $57 a month, thanks to a project by the town's non-profit economic development foundation...

"Because we're a community-owned project we get to balance out profitability versus what's best for the community."...

All told, the project will probably have cost $13 million to $14 million when it's complete, Gustafson said.

$13-14 million is really just peanuts for infrastructure... all achieved though government and non-profits. Bell/Rogers/Shaw corporates can probably make that much in profit in a week, yet they have no incentive to upgrade their own infrastructure. Makes one wonder just how much Bell, Rogers and Shaw is swindling the entire country.

Cable, Thompson DCM475.

As said above, the TP link modem works well, and sells cheap ( goes on sale for $15. )

Just got a new ISP, they say it doesn't work flawlessly for the first 3 days, so I'll run the test again after 3 days.

They also said you can make it better by using your connection as much as possible; what's that about?

Also getting that Q3W at 56k speed effect that people were mentioning in another thread (in GD). Some pepole were getting it, some not, I wasn't on my old ISP but am on this new one. Anyway that ping is lower, that's good, right?

http://duckduckgo.com loads quickly, only other site I just tried.

What they meant is you can make the 3 days transition get the connection up to a better performance by the end of it (the 3 days) if you use the connection as much as possible. Just to clarify.

Is it still bullshit?

There's no transfer cap.

Yeah, I knew lower ping is better, just not whether the Speedtest site is a good indication of the sort of ping you'd get elsewhere.

lol Rogers...

Full speed during peak hours and a 300GB cap that only counts downloads and is unlimited between 2am-8am. Teksavvy wins.
