Hello sir, Looks a solid build. Perhaps an extra mechanical drive as well for back up purposes? |

Don Carlos wrote: Hello sir, Looks a solid build. Perhaps an extra mechanical drive as well for back up purposes? Thank you Don Carlos. Good thought. Yes, even thought I have multiple HDDs and 2 x SSDs in my old rig (I might use some the new one) I am adding a new HDD. Some of my HDDs are knocking 8 years old and that's a surprise. I have now included a 2TB Seagate. I really like the looks of that Antec P380 I currently have the (old) P180 New spec looking like CPU___________ Intel S1150 Core i7 4790K 4.00Ghz Quad Core CPU M/board________Asus Z170 PRO GAMING Video Card _____ Asus STRIX-GTX980 RAM___________Corsair Vengeance 16GB Kit (8Gx2) DDR4 3000 SSD___________Samsung 850 EVO MZ-75E250BW 250G SATAIII HDD___________2TB Seagate 3.5" 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s DVD___________LG GTB0N Internal Slimline SATA Black Cooling________ ANTEC FAN KUHLER-H2O-1250V2-LIQUIDCOOL PSU___________ Corsair CMPSU-HX750i 750 Watt Digital 80Plus Platinum Full Modular ATX CASE _________ ANTEC P380 Black Super Mid Tower OS____________Home 64bit Pro 64bit OEM |

Whiskey, try getting a 980 TI, it's faster and better at overclocking |

[list] SoM wrote: Whiskey, try getting a 980 TI, it's faster and better at overclocking Yes that was my thought exactly I am trying to understand the differences and would appreciate your advice on the CPU choices i7-6700K 4.0GHz vs S1150 Core i7 4790K 4.00Ghz If I am correct the i7-6700K is a Socket 1151 needs a Z170 M/b. Is that right? Here's possibly the final specs but I am always open to and value your suggestions. Code: CPU Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor MB MSI Z170A GAMING M7 ATX LGA1151 GPU MSI GTX980Ti 6GB OC Twin Frozr PCIe Video Card PN GTX 980Ti 6GD5T OC RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 SSD 250GB Samsung 2.5" 850 EVO Series SATA 6Gb/s SSD HDD 2TB Seagate 3.5" 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s HDD PN Cooling Thermaltake Frio Silent 12 CPU Cooler PN CL-P001-AL12BL-B PSU 750 Watt Corsair CS750M 80 PLUS Gold CP-9020078-NA Modular DVD DVD Writer LG GTB0N Slimline CASE ANTEC P380 Black Super Mid Tower OS MS W10 Home 64bit OEM The only changes I am still juggling are M/board ~ the MSI back to my original Asus Z170 PRO GAMING Cooling ~ the Frio Silent to Antec KUHLER H2O 650 Liquid Case ~ the ANTEC P380 to Corsair Full ATX Obsidian 750D Case Black |

It's a decent build, but I'd go for a beefier PSU for future considerations. Get a fully modular Corsair around 850W or better. I find Antec cases dull. |

Thanks Captain Mazda I viewed a number of case reviews on YouTube and the Corsair Obsidian 750D is winning. I am looking at air vs water cooling options now |

Water cooling is the best way to go. A closed loop is worth it for the convenience factor alone, I'm really happy with my Corsair H110iGT. Just make sure the case will be compatible with large radiators. |

Yes. Nice. As I am going the Corsair case this has to be the one. Thanks |

The H110iGT will give you the same performance but at lower fan speeds, meaning it's quieter. |

Quieter is better Thanks for your advice. Looking better. Still, if you see anything, please suggest alternatives. Yeah don't bother with a DVD, just get a Bluray burner. I have this and it does the trick: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=62678 I find LG burners tend to die randomly, ASUS is a more reliable brand these days. |

Update. Like I said, I can't remember the last time I put a DVD in my PC I'd think it would probably be the same if I went the Blu-Ray path so I am sticking with the external DVD as I can always update/upgrade if required. I have also gone for the Gigabyte mother board and GPU pairing. I was looking for more than the 4 SATA ports offered on the ASUS Pro Gaming. Just ordered, then the fun bit, a Windows 10 learning curve. Code: CPU Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor MB Gigabyte S1151 ATX GA-Z170XP-SLI Motherboard GPU Gigabyte GTX980Ti 6GB Gaming PCIe Video Card PN GV-N98TG1 GAMING-6GD RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 SSD 250GB Samsung 2.5" 850 EVO Series SATA 6Gb/s SSD HDD 2TB Seagate 3.5" 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s HDD PN Cooling Corsair Hydro H110i GT CW-9060019-WW Extreme Performance CPU Cooler PSU 850 Watt Corsair RM850I 80 PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply PN CP-9020083-AU DVD DVD Writer ASUS DRW-08D2S-U Lite External SLIM USB 2.0 Black CASE Corsair Full ATX Obsidian 750D OS MS W10 Home 64bit OEM Thanks all for you input/advice EDIT: Days later after build but still installing stuff & copying data across via an external HDD I thought I'd run a graphic test to be sure |

I'm thinking of manning up and buying a gaming rig too, so interested to know what it cost you in AUD. |

A little more than my budget was but I am happy to part with $3435 (AUD). I am pretty happy with the whole setup and I've yet to install those extra and spare SSDs (2) and HDD (1) from the old rig. Cheers to Captain Mazda and the suggested H110iGT. It is so quiet. Think I mentioned earlier, I had the shop put it all together for a price of course that's hidden in the cost of components, as I am a little lazy these days. |

Excellent build! Glad you decided to go with the 980ti, much better card for a couple extra bucks. Here's mine, all factory clocked. 980ti = 2x sli 780ti |
